Hi! My name is Hannah Fleming. I graduated from UVM's Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources with a B.S. in environmental studies and political science in 2023. I am interested in a career in sustainable fashion and am passionate about climate activism! I recently returned from a year abroad, focusing on sustainable fashion in London and sustainable development and tropical ecology in Costa Rica. I'm happy to talk with you about opportunities abroad!
I grew up in Chester, Vermont. I attended Northfield Mount Hermon, a boarding school in Massachusetts. I am so happy I found my way back to UVM for college. During my time at UVM, I was on the snowboard team and competed nationally for the school. I was active in clubs like Women in Business and Stitch-It to the Patriarchy. Burlington has become home for me!
I recently finished at the Burlington Forest Preschool as a teacher focusing on place-based learning. I believe environmental education is key to combatting climate change. And how much fun it is to jump in puddles and mud with kids!
Like you, I attended GIV! I was a student at Current Affairs and Youth Activism (now Global Issues), and Social Entrepreneurship (now Entrepreneurship: Creativity & Innovation).
GIV impacted my education so greatly I wanted to return as faculty! Only two weeks ago, I was head RA for my second year at the GIV Institute on Entrepreneurship (pictured with other staff above^)! During my freshman year of college, I had the opportunity to help as a student teacher at the Environmental Science and Tech Institute. I am so excited to be back for my third year with ESAT!
Fun Fact: This is my SEVENTH GIV!
I love summer cooking, gardening, yoga, anything crafty, and being outside!
I'd love to talk to you about travel, fashion, other GIVs, what going to UVM was like, applying to college in general, and ANYTHING else you can think of.
Currently, I am working full-time on my own business Cherry Pickingss! Cherry Pickingss sells preloved, vintage, and upcycled clothing. I started this business as a way to combat the overconsumption of textiles and fast fashion. I mainly do pop-up markets around the greater New England area!
