Hannah Pearson
Welcome!
My name is Hannah and I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. I work with Dr. Joni Sasaki in the Culture and Religion Lab at UH.
I am primarily interested in studying religion from a psychological lens. I am interested in how religion and culture impact our identity, thoughts, and behavior as well as how we interact with others in and out of our own religious groups. I am interested in comparing the beliefs and behaviors between religious groups as well as comparing the beliefs and behaviors of religious individuals to non-religious individuals.
My Dissertation focuses on lay perceptions of Jewish Identity and how different aspects of Jewish identity [religious, cultural, ethnic] impact psychological outcomes such as well-being, quality of life, and belonging. Additionally, I am interested in both intra- and inter- group discrimination, focusing specifically on identity denial/gatekeeping and antisemitism within Judaism.
Additional projects I am currently working on examine religion and well-being outcomes broadly, perceptions of antisemitism and islamophobia in diaspora following increases in conflict in the Middle East, and how the categories of 'religion' and 'culture' are overlapping, yet unique.
I am currently on the Post-Doc/Job Market Cycle to begin Summer/Fall 2025!
