From 2019 - 2024, I was a science teacher at Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools. My curriculum focused on interactive, project-based learning through place-based education.
Courses and Activities:
5-8th grade science
Various topics including: geology, weather, climate, food science, chemistry, cell biology, human anatomy, neuroscience, physics, astronomy, genetics, evolution, ecosystems
11-12th grade International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics (Standard Level)
IB Extended Essay Supervisor
6-8th grade LEGO Building Elective
LEGO Robotics Coach (2nd-8th Grade)

"Extended Journey" supervisor for Middle and Upper School - Extended Journeys are week-long off-campus experiences, often associated with camping and experiencing the outdoors
From 2018-19, I was the Program Coordinator at Wyoming Stargazing (WYSG) in Jackson Wyoming, where I led and designed astronomy programs for all ages. The outreach programs through WYSG ranged from single-day activities to semester long school programs.
Specifically, I partnered with Teton County Parks and Recreation to lead after school programs (Apres-School Adventures) for students in grades K-5. These programs ran for a total of 8 weeks per age group, 5 days per week for roughly an hour per day. I developed and led activities on various astronomy topics including constellations, stargazing, the Solar System, moon phases, seasons, astronaut training, and engineering.
Instructor of Record for A100: The Solar System June-July 2016
During the summer of 2016, I was the instructor of record for A100: The Solar System at Indiana University. I was solely responsible for the entire course and designed a curriculum based on in-class, hands-on activities.
The first half of the course provided a general introduction to astronomy and covered topics such as the celestial sphere, the history of astronomy, moon phases, seasons, and motions in the solar system. The second half of the course gave an introduction to the solar system and covered the planets, dwarf planets and other minor solar system bodies, exoplanets, and space missions.
Associate Instructor August 2014 - May 2016
Duties included holding office hours and review sessions, guest lecturing, grading assignments, and leading extra credit rooftop observing sessions and solar labs.
Courses:
A100: The Solar System
A103: The Search for Life in the Universe
A105: Stars and Galaxies
A452: Extragalactic Astrophysics
As an undergraduate student at Calvin University, I was a laboratory assistant for three introductory physics and astronomy courses. This role involved assisting laboratory sessions, grading laboratory reports, and grading homework assignments.
