Halo! I’m Hannah Kyla M. Baldoza, a recent graduate of Ateneo de Naga University with a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in English. I was honored to be part of Batch 10 of the SEA-Teacher Exchange Program held in Malang, Indonesia from February 24 to March 21, 2025. During this program, our host university was Universitas Brawijaya, and I had my practicum at SMP Brawijaya Smart School. Through this blog, I’ll be sharing more about these schools and my memorable experiences during my one-month stay in Indonesia!
This is Ateneo de Naga University, a leading Jesuit university in the Bicol Region known for its excellence in academics and values formation. I was part of the College of Education, which is dedicated to training future teachers through quality instruction, hands-on practice, and a strong commitment to service—preparing us to become educators ready for the 21st-century classroom.
The SEA-Teacher Exchange Program is a project of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) that gives education students like me the chance to experience teaching abroad. I was lucky enough to be part of Batch 10, and my placement was in Malang, Indonesia. The program lasted for almost a month, and during that time, I was able to observe, assist, and eventually teach in an international classroom setting.
There were four of us who participated in the program, me, along with Aileen Mae Daco, Monica Garigo, and Rea Gene Herez. All four of us were 4th year English majors from the College of Education at Ateneo de Naga University. We went through the whole process of applying for this program, from informing our dean and internship professor, to taking the necessary tests to check if we were fit for the program, and of course, processing important requirements like passports, travel insurance, and other documents. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but also exciting, because we knew that all these steps were leading us to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to live, learn, and teach in another country.
