GW waveforms

To detect a gravitational wave event and extract the source parameters, a matched filtering technique is commonly adopted. It compares a noisy timeseries directly from the detector with a large bank of waveform templates. When integrated, a random noise has no overlap with the template but a signal does, enabling its detection.

For the matched filtering technique to work, it requires us to have accurate and efficient theoretical models. My group works on delivering such models to the community including effects like spin precession and matter effects.
