HandyText Privacy Policy

HandyText is a free iOS app designed to convert handwritten notes into digital text using your iPhone camera. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your data is handled. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

1. Data We Collect

• Photos: When you use HandyText, you take photos of handwritten text using your device’s camera. These photos are processed to extract digital text.

• No Personal Information: We do not collect personal details such as your name, email, or device identifiers unless they are included in the photos you choose to scan. HandyText does not require an account or login, so no additional personal data is collected.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Text Conversion: Photos you take are sent to Google Cloud Vision API, a third-party service, to convert handwriting into digital text. The API processes the image and returns the extracted text to the app.

• Local Storage: HandyText stores the last 4 scans (converted text and, optionally, the original photo) on your device for quick access in the app’s history view. This data is not stored on our servers or in the cloud.

• No Tracking or Ads: The initial version of HandyText does not include ads, tracking, or analytics. We do not collect data for advertising or profiling purposes.

3. Third-Party Sharing

• Google Cloud Vision API: To perform text recognition, HandyText sends your photos to Google Cloud Vision API. Google processes these images solely to extract text and does not store them after processing. Please review Google’s Privacy Policy for more details on their data practices.

• We do not share your data with any other third parties.

4. Data Storage and Retention

• Local Storage: The last 4 scans are stored on your device. When a new scan is added after the 4th, the oldest scan is automatically deleted to make space.

• No Cloud Storage: We do not store your data on our servers or in the cloud. All data remains on your device unless sent to Google Cloud Vision API for processing.

• You can delete scans manually by clearing your history in the app.

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Since HandyText stores data locally on your device (except during API processing), you have full control over it. You can delete scans at any time via the app’s history view.

• HandyText does not track you or collect personal data for profiling, so there are no additional privacy preferences to manage.

6. Children’s Privacy

• HandyText is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us to have it removed.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

• We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our app or legal requirements. The updated policy will be posted at this URL, and the “Last Updated” date will be revised accordingly.
