Players
Handball is played worldwide however it's the most popular in Europe. Typically played with two teams of seven, and each team has seven additional substitute players. One player on the court must be the goalkeeper, and to make it clear that they are the goalkeeper they have to wear different colors than everyone else on their team. The substitution of players can happen at any time and however many players as well.
Facilities and Equipments
Equipment used are ankle supports, arm sleeves, ball bags, ball pumps, bibs, clipboards, cones, courts, finger tape, goalkeeper pants, goals, goggles, handballs, hand wax, jerseys, knee pads, shoes, shorts, shoulder supports, water bottles, whistles, and wrist supports. Handball courts are indoor, hard-surface courts. The court is 44 yards long, and 22 yards wide, and is marked with various lines that indicate boundaries.
Rules and Officiating
The very competitive game consists of a couple of rules such as equal 30-minute halves with a 5–10 minute break. A team cannot keep possession of the ball without attempting to attack. The start is awarded to the ball without attempting to attack. A match begins with both teams in their own half. A goal can be scored from any type of throw. Two referees with equal authority shall be in charge of each game. They shall be assisted by a scorekeeper and a timekeeper. The two referees alternately play the role of court referee and line referee. A game of handball is officiated by four officials – two referees, a scorekeeper, and a timekeeper. The referees are positioned diagonally on the court to observe a sideline each and, depending on who is attacking, one is called a field referee and the other a goal referee.
Special Skills and Strategy
There are different skills that could be used in the game of handball which includes dribbling, throwing, catching, jumping, saving, accuracy, power, running, and screening. It is important that players know how to dribble when entering a game, if you are a ball carrier, you must dribble in order to move up the court. Throwing the ball is vitally important to the game of handball. The ball is thrown to either shoot or pass to a teammate. Being able to pass or shoot with either hand is a great skill to have and will make you a more well-rounded player on offense. Catching is most often used when passing the ball or when playing goalie. It is important to work on hand-eye coordination because if you drop the ball, you give your opponents a chance to get possession. Communication within the game aids with other aspects of the game like passing and screening, by making sure everyone on your team is on the same page.
