My name is 吴翰博 (pinyin: Wú Hàn Bó).
My family name, 吴 (Wú), is a common Chinese surname. Its Cantonese transliteration is Ng. It's also related to the Korean surname O/Oh and the Vietnamese surname Ngô.
The first character of my given name, 翰 (Hàn), means feather or writing brush, and its connotations extend to literary work/talent.
The second character of my given name, 博 (Bó), means plentiful, wide, or erudite. It can also refer to a doctoral degree or gambling. Doing a PhD is like a gamble, isn't it?
I had a pet name (小名, the nickname people called me during childhood), 黑 (Hēi). It comes from my mum's family name, which is an extremely rare surname in China, probably originating from a historical Turkic tribe.
I'm really into 60s–80s rock music (especialy hard rock and post-punk). Some of my faviourate bands: The Clash, Joy Division, Kiss, and Led Zeppelin (best band ever!).
As someone born and brought up in China, I also like a number of Mandopop/Cantopop artists: Phil Chang, Ronald Cheng, Jay Chou, Fish Leong, Lo Ta-yu, Karen Mok, David Tao, and Wu Bai & China Blue.
I'm an avid traveler, an ardent (but amateur) hiker, an avgeek, a railfan, a museumgoer, and a foodie. Below you can find a map of my footprints.
