Profile:
I am a Professor within the Information Technology Discipline at Murdoch University (Australia) and a member of the Biosecurity and One Health Research Centre, Harry Butler Institute (Murdoch University, Australia).
I received my Master's and the Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Prior to joining Murdoch University in 2016, I was a Senior Research Fellow at the Phenomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre of the University of South Australia (Australia), an Associate Professor at Telecom Lille 1 (France), an Assistant Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), and a PostDoctoral Research Fellow at Nara Institute of Science and Technology (Japan) and funded by the prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship program.
My research interests span various fields of machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, and Virtual/Augmented Reality, with a special focus on the 3D reconstruction, modeling, and analysis of static and deformable 3D objects, and on image analysis, image-based phenotyping and big data in agriculture, health, and environment.
I co-authored two books published, respectively, in 2017 and 2019, and more than 40 articles in top journals including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and ACM Transactions on Graphics (Siggraph and Siggraph Asia). My work received multiple awards including the Best Paper Awards at (1) the Eurographics Symposium on Geometry Processing (2017), (2) the APRS/IAPR Best Paper Prize at DICTA (2012), and (3) the IEEE International Conference on Shape Modelling (2006). I have also received the Japan Society of Art and Science Award (2008) for the best computer graphics paper published between 2006 and 2008.
