We are a concert/military band based at RAF Halton in Wendover, near Aylesbury (see map). For those with a keen eye you might recognise the stairs from the Netflix production "Bridgerton". Its members come from all walks of life, including the Armed Forces and the Civil Service. The majority of the band are local civilians who travel from a wide area to meet for rehearsals. We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7.30 - 9.30pm. We do have a break for a coffee and a chat around 8.30. Our main aim is to support the RAF and sister services, hence we wear RAF uniform (which is provided free of charge). Having said that, the majority of our band engagements are playing in various parks during the summer months.
Overall we perform around 20 - 25 engagements a year, but the majority of those are official functions attended by one of our ensembles. Over the past few years we have performed as part of the massed bands at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, Massed RAF Voluntary Bands concert in Symphony Hall and at Windsor Castle. We play on bandstands thoughout Bucks, Berks and surrounding counties, including Windsor, Amersham and Henley.
We perform around 4 - 6 concerts a year, mainly in support of local charities, and generally have a full concert band on these occasions.
Clarinet Quartet
Saxophone Quartet
Brass Quintet
The majority of the bands engagements are playing for official dinners and functions in the various messes in our catchment area. We have also provided groups to functions at the Houses of Parliament and at Hatfield House. The band can provide either a clarinet/saxophone quartet or a brass quintet for the majority of our dinning in nights, depending on how many guests there are in attendance. They have a wide variety of music they can call upon and we also arrange any that we don't have in our pads.
If you play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument to around Grade 5 standard, then please speak to the Bandmaster David Richards who would be glad to give you any further information. You can either call on 07958 526399 or email bandmaster.halton.vb@gmail.com.
We would be particularly interested in hearing from clarinet, saxophone, horn, cornet and tuba players.
