Among the best of the houses, which send a steady stream of guests through a maze of darkened corridors filled with lunging monsters, jump scares, blood-curdling (literally and figuratively) special effects, and other things that go bump in the night, is The Darkest Deal. It tells the time-honored story of selling one’s soul for fame and fortune. In this case it is Pinestraw Spruce, a struggling blues musician in the Mississippi Delta striking a grand bargain with The Collector, who is apparently an emissary of the devil.

There are bizarre contortionists, sad clowns, and other nightmare-inducing scenes. The circus turns out to be a pretense to attract audience members whom the doctor can victimize in his quest for immortality. Yup, he is also a collector of souls, and he is lusting after ours. The house also shows how one of Dr. Oddfellow\\u001d’s victims became another HHN icon, Jack the Clown. Through the decades, Universal has established its own layered mythology for the Halloween event.

All five scare zones are connected to Dr. Oddfellow this year. The good doctor has his own stage near the front of the park to greet guests (and steal their souls). As is usually the case, the zone in the Studio’s Central Park area, which is heavily treed and tightly constricted, really pops. Set in the 1920s, the jungle-themed zone has some mighty odd characters prowling in the fog. The red eyes of the bats nestled in the trees are quite a sight as well.

A pumpkin pie moon was shining bright,

and floppy scarecrows danced in the wind,

Sitting on my porch, I saw a strange sight

That made flowers shiver and jack-o-lanterns grin.

Black thunder clouds reared like ragged cliff walls,

Marbled with jagged lightning strikes,

Coyotes howled, and restless cattle bawled.

When a huge creature appeared in the crackling light.

Creature, creature of the night,

Standing in the wind, unholy sight!

From what corner of Hell do you come?

When I look into your eyes, my heart goes numb!

He didn't answer me, but just shambled on,

A fiery bag hanging from his great frame.

Surrounded by a packs of baying hounds,

Pure souls passed on, but those red-stained, he claimed.

He walked with his burden into the rain,

So close to my chair, I felt the wind's scorch.

I heard the captive souls' moans, and I felt their pain,

While his pulsing probe coursed around my porch!

A healing shower refreshed my soul.

Suddenly the clouds cleared and the night calmed.

The air became balmy, but not cold,

and a gentle breeze whispered a soothing psalm.

'A nightmare, ' I murmured, vastly relieved!

'Grandpa, who was that giant? ' my grandson asked.

'Just shadows. Cookies inside! ' He's so young, you see.

I turned one more times to watch that thing pass.

Creature, Creature, of Halloween night,

Standing in the wind, unholy sight.

From what corner of Hell do you come?

When I look into your eyes, my heart goes numb!

Perhaps the most well-known facet of the crossroad is the connection it has with the devil. They say that if you are standing at a crossroad at midnight, you will come face to face with him. In exchange for your soul, he will grant you a wish.

Jack-o-lanterns light up Halloween nights. Jack-o-lanterns were originally made out of hollowed-out turnips, but pumpkins replaced the turnips when the Irish emigrated to North America. Jack-o-lanterns were used to guide lost souls and keep evil spirits at bay. 006ab0faaa
