Travel is often both an adventure and a way to find peace. My journey to Siargao, known as the
"Surfing Capital of the Philippines," became one of the most memorable trips I have ever taken. Surrounded by beauty and tranquility, I discovered not only breathtaking places and exciting activities but also a personal milestone that made the experience more meaningful. What began as a simple plan turned into an adventure filled with joy, peace, and lasting memories.
The trip started with careful preparation. With my essentials packed-clothes, swimwear, sunscreen, and snacks-I rode a motorcycle to Surigao City. At the port, I purchased boat tickets to Dapa, the gateway to Siargao. The motorcycle ride was refreshing as it revealed the countryside's green fields and quiet roads. The boat ride afterward was calm, with fresh air brushing my face as the sea stretched endlessly. Soon, palm trees and friendly smiles welcomed me to the peaceful island. Siargao's wonders unfolded in many forms. Island hopping revealed three unforgettable destinations.
Naked Island shone like a long stretch of white sand surrounded by clear waters. Daku Island offered not just space to explore but also delicious seafood meals by the shore. Guyam Island, small yet charming, became the perfect spot for photos and quiet moments. Beyond the islands, the adventure grew deeper. Surfing at Cloud 9 gave me a chance to ride the famous waves of Siargao. At Magpupungko Rock Pools, I swam in the clear water formed during low tide. Sugba Lagoon offered a different kind of thrill, where I tried kayaking and paddleboarding surrounded by green waters and cliffs. Food also played a special role, as I enjoyed seafood, coconut dishes, and fresh fruit smoothies.
One of the highlights of the trip, however, was not just the activities but a personal decision —I got my first tattoo in Siargao. The design was simple but meaningful, serving as a reminder of the courage and freedom that travel brings. The buzzing sound of the tattoo needle, mixed with the sound of waves nearby, made the experience unforgettable. It became more than just body art; it was a permanent memory of the peace and adventure I found on the island.
The journey was filled with treasured moments. Traveling by motorcycle and boat added simplicity that made the experience unique. Watching the sunset at the beach painted the sky with calmness that stayed in my heart. Surfing lessons filled the air with laughter as I struggled yet enjoyed the waves. And, as I looked at my new tattoo, I realized it would forever symbolize the joy and bravery that Siargao had given me. In the end, the trip to Siargao combined adventure, peace, natural beauty, and a personal milestone. It proved that even the simplest journeys can create the most unforgettable memories. The island left me with happiness, serenity, and a mark that will last for a lifetime.
