Very next day, I set some time to train Dev. The night before, I stayed up late watching some youtube videos and reading articles. I had never imagined in my life that some day I will be watching videos on 'How to train your kid to bike ride'. As a kid, I learnt riding a rental bike (rental rate: ~2 cents per hour) and on a busy side walk (footpath) in Dadar (Mumbai, India). Just for the perspective, Mumbai has approx. 70,000 people per sq. mile while Denver,CO metro has 4500 people per sq. mile.

On Sunday Aug 8, 2021, Dev and I went to his school ground to train. Before leaving, I asked Dev if he was ready to do it and he said yes, I am going to do it today. Dev was very determined to be off training wheels and so was I. We practiced various methods for an hour and then it finally happened! At 11:47 am US Mountain Time, for the first time ever, Dev Mukadam was riding his bike on two wheels, without training wheels! I felt on top of the world with an unimaginable sense of achievement.

While we took a break, Dev said something that I will never forget, "Dad, you know whats the most important thing needed to bike ride without two wheels?" I said, "Of course, its a bike". He said "Trust", I was surprised and asked him to explain. Dev said "Trust is the most important thing to bike ride because, I have to trust you to hold me if I am about to fall and trust my own balancing skills to not fall".

As I start to reflect and connect the dots, I begin to see two separate worlds that are similar but yet so different. In my professional world, Software-Defined is a hot topic on how an orchestrator can easily program remote devices to scale tasks. But in real world, humans, kids, family cannot be orchestrated to scale in same way; rather we need to invest time and energy, one one task/goal at one time. In professional world, Zero Trust, Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) are latest buzz words in security; but personally do we trust less and becoming more vulnerable ? IoT/ML/AI are able to look into machines/sensors to predict, detect take preventive actions, actionable insights towards a connected world; but are we personally becoming disconnected from real world?

Just like Dev learning to balance his bike, I feel its important to balance the advent of technology and our personal lives. For me, goals were tied to a business outcomes and/or professional KPI/KRA. Planning, executing and achieving those was big sense of achievement. However, the sense of achievement and happiness from personal goal is different and far greater. Personal goal like teaching my son to ride his bike on two wheels is something that he will never ever unlearn, something will stay with him forever throughout his life and something that I can only do once in a life time with him; priceless! Its amazing to see that now he is teaching his sister and am sure will pass it on to the next generations to come! In 2022, I plan on gaining new professional skills while also working on personal goals with family. Happy New Year 2022 everyone!

Wisconsin Republican senator Joseph R. McCarthy rocketed to public attention in 1950 with his allegations that hundreds of Communists had infiltrated the State Department and other federal agencies. These charges struck a particularly responsive note at a time of deepening national anxiety about the spread of world communism.

McCarthy relentlessly continued his anticommunist campaign into 1953, when he gained a new platform as chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. He quickly put his imprint on that subcommittee, shifting its focus from investigating fraud and waste in the executive branch to hunting for Communists. He conducted scores of hearings, calling hundreds of witnesses in both public and closed sessions.

In the spring of 1954, McCarthy picked a fight with the U.S. Army, charging lax security at a top-secret army facility. The army responded that the senator had sought preferential treatment for a recently drafted subcommittee aide. Amidst this controversy, McCarthy temporarily stepped down as chairman for the duration of the three-month nationally televised spectacle known to history as the Army-McCarthy hearings.

The army hired Boston lawyer Joseph Welch to make its case. At a session on June 9, 1954, McCarthy charged that one of Welch's attorneys had ties to a Communist organization. As an amazed television audience looked on, Welch responded with the immortal lines that ultimately ended McCarthy's career: "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness." When McCarthy tried to continue his attack, Welch angrily interrupted, "Let us not assassinate this lad further, senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?"

Do you know that feeling when you arrive in an unfamiliar, exotic place and can explore its uniqueness and secrets, accompanied by a strange sense of nostalgia? I could feel something like that thanks to Greedfall.

Exploring these isolated, hidden tribes gave me a glimpse of something that is no longer possible in our real lives. I had a taste of this magic while playing Risen 2, but the game's budget didn't guarantee such immersion.

After going to the event and hearing Jana speak I wanted to meet this woman that seemed so so different than anyone I had ever met. She came to my house and I knew immediately, she was my people. We became friends and then she asked me to teach at the next Launching event.

The more and more I learned about the Spirit, the more and more I longed for a place where we could practice listening to the Spirit and then walking in the Spirit. This birthed a Holy Spirit Class that began meeting at my house. This multi-generational, eclectic group of women were supposed to meet for 6 weeks that turned into a year and then another year and another.

I guess the meaning of the phrase "what a great feeling that gave me" is "what a great feeling that / which I had". I don't really understand the meaning of the word 'gave' in the sentence. A great feeling gave me what (What did a great feeling give me)? It seems like the word 'gave' might have a special meaning when it goes with 'feeling'. Could you please explain this special meaning in this context?

"What a great feeling that gave me..." could be rewritten as "What a good feeling the stranger's kindness gave me..." "That" is a demonstrative pronoun for "the stranger's kindness" (or "the caller's good deed" or any similar phrasing).

"Gave" makes sense because it helps to specify what caused the good feeling. Think of it in this case as a synonym for "caused" or "contributed," not "gifted." It works with things that aren't "feelings."

Ms. Bright was my high school geometry teacher. And, you know, now that I think about it, her name fit her exceedingly well because she was the most uplifting teacher I had in high school. And she fueled a sense of optimism in me, even though I grew up in challenging circumstances.

And so she found other ways to make sure that I felt like I belonged there at the school and in her classroom. She made me her teaching assistant, giving me leadership in the classroom. And she would spend part of her planning periods with me, helping me understand that there was a wider world out there. But after a couple of years in high school, she got married and moved away, and went to teach somewhere else.

Dan Demilew enrolled on the Central Saint Martins Birkbeck MBA seeking a new direction. Now preparing to start a role in renewable energy, he reflects on the experience that led him to this opportunity.

Instead, I moved to take up a new opportunity in Australia. I accepted a senior role working mostly on mine sites, and found the work less fulfilling, as I was working on projects that were mostly temporary in nature. Having progressed onto the project management side of things, I found myself spending an increasing amount of time dealing with the politics and work winning side of the business, which started to wear me down.

From the outside, my life looked pretty perfect when I was growing up. My parents had a happy marriage, they were supportive and they earned enough for us to be more than comfortable. I was mostly happy, but I also had a deep sense that something was wrong with me.

So, at around the age of 12, I decided that the way to cure these feelings of unworthiness was perfection. Simple, right? If I was just perfect, then I would fit in. I would be chosen. I would really be happy.

Unconditional self-worth is the antidote to low self-worth. It is a way out of self-criticism, shame and unhealthy behavior. It is a way out of depression, anxiety and substance abuse. It is time for us to base our worth on the fact that we are human to cultivate a worth that persists even when life does not go as we hoped.

Even after armed hostilities broke out between the American colonists and British forces in 1775, many prominent colonists seemed reluctant to consider the idea of actually breaking away from Britain and instead insisted that they were still its loyal subjects, even as they resisted what they saw as its tyrannical laws and unfair taxation.

"I attribute its success to two things," Jack Fructman, Jr., author of The Political Philosophy of Thomas Paine and Thomas Paine: Apostle of Freedom, explains. "First, it was the first published piece that I know of advocating separation from the British Empire. And second, there were pirated copies circulating, a rather common phenomenon in the 18th century before copyright laws." In addition, he notes, "it was often read aloud, which helped spread its popularity and notoriety."

As Thomas Jefferson biographer Joseph J. Ellis has written, Common Sense "swept through the colonies like a firestorm, destroying any final vestige of loyalty to the British crown." Within a few months of its publication, the Continental Congress instructed each colony to draft new state constitutions, an act that set the colonies clearly on the path to declaring independence. 17dc91bb1f
