January  11 Halifax Heroes Rob Hamilton

Rob's talk will cover British gallantry medals from the Crimea to WWII with the stories of the courageous acts of the local men who earned them.

March 14     My American Cousins Stuart Wilkinson

Three of the brothers of Stuart's 3 x great grandma emigrated to America in the 1700’s. They became involved in the American War of Independence. A later descendant was a General in the U.S. Civil War.

April 11 Cockleshell 22 Expedition Jason Garland

In December 2022, ten former Royal Marines followed the route of the 1942 Operation Frankton. 70 miles padding in kayaks to Bordeaux, and a 100 mile escape route march. Our speaker, Jason was one of the ten.

May  9 The Early Percy Family David Glover

David's talk will cover the activities of one of the most powerful families in Yorkshire and Northumberland beginning with the Norman Conquest and the rebuilding of York Castle to the aftermath of Bosworth Field.

June 13 Shelf in The Great War Ben Stables

Ben, the author of The Early History of Shelf , will present the story of the village during the years of the First World War.

July 11 The Third Crusade Eli Dawson

After his fascinating talk last year on the First Crusade, Eli will be speaking about the Third Crusade from 1189 to 1192 which involved Richard the Lionheart.

Sept 12    Detecting Military Artifacts Brendan Fermoyle

Brendan is a detectorist working as a volunteers in conjunction with archaeologists.  His talk will include local finds.

November 14 The Civil War in Calderdale (3)   Elaine Beach 

Continuing her research, Elaine will cover local events during the latter stages of the War and the reaction to the execution of Charles I.
