Abbey Gardens is a charitable organization created with a mission to transform a spent gravel pit into a green space dedicated to developing economic, ecological, educational, and recreational growth within our community. We bring this mission to life by focusing on three key pillars, Environmental Restoration, Community Education, and Local Food Systems. The Abbey Gardens team is dedicated to supporting all three pillars by ensuring all activities on site are directly related to them.
Under our Local Food Systems pillar, Abbey Gardens operates the Food Hub, a retail store specializing in local food, and a café that serves sandwiches, and seasonal specials including made from scratch vegan and gluten free baked goods. We grow our own vegetables and herbs to support our kitchen and café with farm to table experiences and to support tourism initiatives, events, and festivals. We have created a new mission statement for our Food Hub to guide us; Our Food Hub is a social enterprise that produces, promotes, and sells sustainable, local food to engage the community and support Abbey Gardens.
