My name is Haley DeVore, I am twenty-eight years old, and I live in Athens, Ohio, with my tortie cat, Leia. I consider myself a multi-genre author. I love to write wild, mysterious, science fiction, or speculative stories. However, I also am a sucker for a good romance story. I pride myself on speaking on serious issues in my writing while also making the lines seem conversational or sarcastic in nature, as they would if the characters woven into the worlds were real in these situations.
I’ve been a writer for many, many years. During my preteen and teenage years, I would shut myself up in my room and spend hours at my desk with a notebook and a glittery gel pen, creating worlds, characters, and outlandish stories about things in everyday life. During my teenage years, I also discovered the world of fanfiction, and it only fueled my love for writing and creating stories at a young age.
Aside from fiction, I also enjoy writing poetry. Pouring my heart and soul into my poems became a type of therapy for me that I still lean on today when I need to get my scrambled thoughts on paper.
I’m also extremely passionate about where I’m from, the foothills of Appalachia, and you’ll see many themes, quirks, and settings are based on this area in my work. My family is from deep in the Appalachian region of West Virginia and Tennessee, and many of the things we do and the way we live are based on customs, ideas, stories, and traditions of the area. I love to breathe those traditions and ideas into the characters I put on paper.
