About

Dr. Hakki Baltaci graduated from Meteorological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkiye and received his MSc and Ph.D degree in Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, Climate & Marine Sciences department of ITU, during 2010 and 2015 years, respectively.  

During his MSc, he mainly focused on the landslides and precipitation and the assessment of minimum threshold values for Eastern Black Sea Region. His Ph.D thesis focuses on the Atmospheric Circulation Types in Marmara Region (NW Turkiye) and their influence on precipitation. 

After working of long-term years in Airport Meteorology Office and Operational Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Center as a weather forecaster at Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS), he is currently an Associate Professor in the Institute of Earth & Marine Sciences, Gebze Technical University, Turkiye. During 2022, he worked as an UN (United Nations) International Meteorology Expert for National Center Meteorology (NCM) of Saudi Arabia, in Jeddah for 9 months.

His research interests mainly related to extreme atmospheric events (e.g. extreme precipitation, flash-floods, hailstorms, landslides etc), synoptic climatology, satellite precipitation estimates, drought, teleconnection patterns and air pollution transport.

His academic and research background has mainly focused on regional and large-scale climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and South America.

Beside his academic research activities, he is interested in diving and bike tours.
