Month 2-The Hard part
Hello my good people. In my last blog, I talked about the gratifying parts of becoming Vegan. Now for the hard truths. Not having cravings for things you shouldn't have is the hardest part. I was never a meat lover, so that part was easy to give up. The hard part is the snacks. So many things are made from animal products. The dairy is my nemisis. Yes, I am lactose intolerant. Yes dairy hates me. But there are so many things that I indulged in before taking this vegan journey that were made from some form of dairy products. The list is long y'all. You would not believe how long. The simple stuff, like ice cream and cake and cookies is a no brainer. But when you start reading ingredients of different things you enjoy, you would be surprised. Anything made with milk, eggs and butter are off limits. You have to physically buy things that don't have those ingredients. So, I am here to say that I have become one of those people who stand in the aisles of the supermarket for heaven knows how long reading ingredients of each product that I pick up or unsure of. And guess what, if the package says, manufactured where it is possible that eggs and milk was used, you still can't eat it. Even if the actual listed ingredients does not list eggs and milk.
I am also a habitual snacker. Don't judge me, I am working through it with my nutritionist. I have not found much to actually snack on as a vegan besides fruit and raw vegetables. I don't want to overdo carrots and celery with peanut butter or apples because I don't want to get tired of eating those things. This journey is difficult and I know that it will get even more challenging as the school year progresses. Wish me luck.
