Hair Dryer White Noise Download

My 4 month old will only calm down to sleep in his crib if he is listening to the hair dryer. I really want to find an app or white noise machine that works instead but am really struggling. We have even tried recording our hairdryer and playing it back to him but that doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you mean you haven't found suitable apps, or that they're not working as well on the baby as the real hairdryer?

I've got an app called Sleep Aid Fan - it has three different fan noises to choose from, with different volume options. I find it really good (and the if the loudest setting isn't loud enough, you could always use speakers...)

I used to use an app (sound sleeper) for babies 1&2, which is a great app, and even has the microphone feature so the noise starts when it hears noise - so when baby cries, the white noise kicks in. BUTTTT it's too much of a pain to sacrifice your phone all the time, so you want a dedicated white noise machine, and this one is exceptional. Lots of different sounds/volumes/fantastic timer. Three kids in and it's by far the best baby thing I've bought - 30 well spent!

So my little one (2 weeks) has decided that he will sleep during the day only if my hairdryer is on. I discovered this when I was drying my milk soaked bra (sad, yes, I know but I don't have a washing machine yet and this was the fastest way to not suffer totally). He fell asleep almost instantly. I thought it was a fluke, but when I turned it off, he woke up instantly.

My question is is this safe? I keep the hair dryer blowing cold air about 5 metres away from little one, but it's been on for 40 minutes now. I tried to turn it off, but he stirred instantly. I don't care if I break the thing (it's not like I'll be styling my hair any time soon!) but I am mostly worried about it physically exploding or something. It's totally cold to the touch, it's not overheating at all, but I'm still worried.

Look for multi-attachments as these mean you can style your hair differently. That could be a nozzle, diffuser or styling comb. My guess is that your baby finds the sounds of the hairdryer and hoover soothing. Maybe it resembles (in his or her mind) the sounds she heard while still in the womb. It is actually quite common that babies fall asleep really well to so-called white noise, such as the hoover or hairdryer. An often referred to study from 1990 concluded that as many as 80% of the babies in the study fell asleep within five minutes in response to white noise compared with 25% who fell asleep spontaneously without white noise.
