Music is a fundamental part of our lives and culture - music is everywhere! It is a language that teaches you how to communicate in a way that other languages cannot: It allows you to express what you can’t put to words, and it allows you to communicate with people across different cultures, who might not speak the same language as you.
Having a solid understanding of how music works and taking lessons has so many benefits, no matter what age or experience level you are at. There have been many studies done on the effects of learning music on the brain, and it actually shapes the brain structure and function, helping you to focus, learn diligence and determination, teaches self-discipline, improving long term memory, and more.
It is important to me to provide the student with a strong technical foundation on their instrument: a strong technique allows for the smoothest experience while learning. Music lessons should be fun and challenging. It is important to create a positive and safe environment where a student will be happy to try new things, explore, and push the limits of what they think they can do.
I started teaching professionally in September 2021, but I have given informal lessons in flute and theory before that. Since then, I have held a private professional studio, and I have taught both private and group flute, piano, and theory classes, as well as Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes at two local music studios; Joyful Sounds Music Studio, and the Scotia Suzuki School of Music. I am currently in the process of obtaining my Suzuki flute and piano training, and Suzuki Early Childhood Education training.
Since beginning my teaching journey, I have learned a lot about how to communicate with people of all ages, finding the most effective ways to explain concepts and knowing the best ways to encourage and motivate my students. It is very important to listen to them, and understand their goals in order to give them the best experience possible.
Because I have performed 10 different ensembles with many different instruments and roles, I have a very versatile background of experiences, and this helps me understand music from many different styles and perspectives.
I charge $60 per hour for my lessons, or $30 for a half-hour, and payment is billed monthly at the beginning of each month. Lesson length should be determined by the age of the student, and experience level.
