Hailey started taking private flute lessons in 2015 while living in Washington state, having began lessons with Kimberly Breilein. In 2019, she moved back to her hometown (Halifax) and studied with Christine Feierabend for four years, two of which were during her time studying music at Dalhousie University. Hailey is transferring to the University of Montreal to study with Denis Bluteau this fall.
Hailey was a member of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra (NSYO) from 2019-2023, acting as principal flute since 2020. She was also a member of the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra for two years, and was principal flute for the 2022-23 season.
Hailey has performed in many different ensembles on many different instruments since picking up her first instrument in 2015: saxophone and trumpet/flugelhorn in different jazz bands, flute and mellophone in marching band, bass drum in drumline, flute/piccolo and oboe in wind ensembles, and singing alto in several choirs, to name a few. In 2020, she organized a wind quintet which would play at several venues such as Music Royale in Lunenberg, and in a Halifax for Ukraine Fundraiser, between 2020 and 2022. She also played flute in the Fountain Wind Quintet at Dalhousie University during the 2022-23 season.
While living in Washington, Hailey performed in WMEA solo competitions, and earned the highest grades each year. In 2017, she performed unaccompanied flute music in the Oak Harbor Music Festival.
Since moving back to Nova Scotia in 2019, She has performed on numerous occasions, including: the Poulenc flute sonata as a guest artist in the Chamber Players Series in 2021; the first two movements of the Jolivet Concerto in Dalhousie University's Concerto Night; and has performed a couple of times for the Women for Music Association.
Hailey currently teaches flute and SECE classes at the Scotia Suzuki School of Music.
