The evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is reshaping how humans interact with machines, paving the way for innovative collaboration and augmented intelligence. At the core of the current revolution is natural language processing (NLP), which offers intuitive interfaces to enhance human capabilities and facilitate more effective human-AI collaboration and augmented intelligence (HAICAI) - the strategic partnership and cooperative interaction between human intelligence and agentic AI aimed at achieving superior outcomes. Similarly, we consider augmented intelligence to be the cooperative interaction between human intelligence and non-agentic AI such as providing timely information or processing support.
Track Chairs - Dr. Jesse Roberts (Tennessee Tech), Dr. Chris MacLellan (Georgia Tech), Kyle Moore (Vanderbilt)
Program Committee - Dr. Bill Eberle (Tennessee Tech), Dr. Doug Talbert (Tennessee Tech), Hunter Sawyer (Tennessee Tech), Daniel Ndayegamiye (Tennessee Tech)
The Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Symposium began in 1988, making it one of the oldest AI focused research conferences in the world. FLAIRS-39 continues a tradition of presenting and discussing state of the art artificial intelligence and related research in a sociable atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Events include invited speakers, special tracks, tutorials, and presentations of papers, posters, and awards. Traditionally, FLAIRS features not only some of the world’s leading researchers and excellent speakers, but also quality submissions from students.
FLAIRS-39 will take place at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa. Experience the beauty of this south Florida island, surrounded by the comfort of elegant guest rooms and suites, luxury amenities, fresh Florida cuisine, and endless activities. Relax and enjoy the sunshine at this gorgeous resort on Florida’s Gulf Coast. You’ll find stunning ocean views and easy access to one of the most beautiful beaches around. Whether you're looking to unwind or get inspired, this spot has everything you need for a fun, unforgettable conference.
This special track on human-AI Collaboration and Augmented Intelligence invites research toward amplifying human potential through agentic action or timely information provided to the user. Papers that either explore novel instantiations of AI collaboration or augmented intelligence are appropriate. Further, papers that explore fundamental questions regarding HAICAI are encouraged. Highest priority will be given to papers that explore the intersection of natural language and HAICAI.
Topics of interest may include (but are not limited to):
Collaborative Tools & Systems: Development of NLP-driven tools that foster seamless human-AI collaboration and productivity enhancement
Evaluation of Models: Evaluation of models and their relevant capabilities for human-collaboration
Understanding Uncertainty: Investigating the impact of, and strategies for, managing uncertainty in collaborative interactions human-AI Communication: Foundational research on AI systems understanding and supporting human directions and preferences
Domain Applications: Integration of NLP within healthcare, education, and business contexts to extend human knowledge
Agentic Systems: Applications showcasing collaborative AI agents improving desired outcomes
Evaluation Studies: Human-centered research evaluating the effectiveness of AI-assisted workflows, productivity tools, and decision-support systems
Ethical Considerations: Examining challenges in creating transparent, trustworthy AI systems that empower rather than replace human capabilities
Fundamental Questions: Investigation of the fundamental problems associated with human-AI collaboration and efforts to augment human intelligence through AI.
There are three types of paper submissions:
Full paper – a paper describing mature novel research, up to 6 pages excluding references for submission. Accepted papers will be published with up to 7 pages in the proceedings and presented by the author in a 20-minute oral presentation. Rejected full papers might be accepted as short papers or posters, if reviewers find the idea interesting but the paper quality was not sufficient to be published in full length.
Short paper – a paper that shows some novelty and general interest but is more preliminary or in the early stages of development, up to 4 pages excluding references for submission. Accepted papers will be published with up to 5 pages in the proceedings and presented by the author in a 10-minute oral presentation.
Poster paper – up to 2 pages excluding references for submission. Accepted papers will be published with up to 2 pages in the proceedings and presented by the author in a poster session.
Appendices after the references are permitted but might not be reviewed, and appendices will not be permitted in the final version of the paper if it is accepted.
Reviews are double blind, therefore submitted papers must not include author names or affiliations. Papers must use the FLAIRS-39 template and must be submitted as a PDF.
FLAIRS will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or another conference. Authors are also required not to submit their papers elsewhere during FLAIRS's review period. These restrictions apply only to journals and conferences, not to workshops and similar specialized presentations with a limited audience and without archival proceedings. Authors will be required to confirm that their submissions conform to these requirements at the time of submission.
NEW FOR FLAIRS-39: Accepted papers may be expanded for publication beyond the submission page limits; see details below.
Paper submission
Paper submission is a two-step process. First, the paper abstract must be registered in EasyChair by the Paper abstract submission deadline. Then, the full paper in PDF is due by the Paper submission deadline. Without registering an abstract on time, it will not be possible to submit the paper later.

The proceedings of FLAIRS-39 will be published by Florida Online Journals (https://journals.flvc.org/) which is indexed in DBLP and Scopus. Authors are expected to make a reasonable effort to address reviewers’ comments prior to the submission of the camera-ready paper. Where such expectations have not been met, actions may be taken to maintain the quality of the conference and the expectations of attendees.
For a paper to be published in the proceedings, all accepted papers (full, short and poster) must be accompanied by at least one AUTHOR REGISTRATION. It is also expected that at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present their work. A single author registration allows for a maximum of two papers per AUTHOR REGISTRATION. Author names may be changed or re-ordered after reviewing; however, for budgetary reasons, registration fees will be based on the details at the time of submission and review.
