Since 2015, Hunger at Home has pioneered the recovery and repurposing of surplus food, transforming it into millions of meals for those in need. Through strategic partnerships with 35+ local businesses, including restaurants, convention centers, hotels, and sports stadiums, we're at the forefront of rescuing and repurposing surplus food, reducing waste, and maximizing community impact. The Hunger at Home Youth Council is dedicated to promoting the activities of Hunger at Home through volunteerism, education, and activism. The Council is divided into six committees that collaborate to offer members a positive forum to be creative, innovative, and develop leadership skills.
The Executive Committee is a group of four individuals that have shown dedication and commitment to the Youth Council mission. The committee aims to collaborate with all committees to ensure the Youth Council achieves its mission and promotes food security.

GOAL: The participant committee strives to promote engagement and organize activities for the Youth Council.
INITIATIVE: By reaching out to high schools in the Bay Area and collaborating with advisors to organize council activities, the participant committee ensures members are actively engaged with youth council initiatives and are given the resources to foster innovation.

GOAL: The communications committee aims to promote awareness and engage the Bay Area community.
INITIATIVE: Through food drives and outreach, the communications committee manages food drives, oversee school clubs, plans field trips, and ensures the community is involved in our initiatives.

ADVISOR: Shelly Shi
GOAL: The research committee investigates food-related issues, hosts webinars, and develops educational programs.
INITIATIVE: Through online webinars featuring guest speakers, newsletter spotlights, and other educational programs, the research committee educates both the Youth Council and the public, while maintaining up-to-date information.

ADVISOR: Carine Chan
GOAL: The special events committee plans all special Youth Council events, including (but not limited to) the Food for Thought Summit and the Alumni Banquet.
INITIATIVE: Through collaboration and commitment, the committee works with the advisory committee to meticulously work out finances, marketing, and logistics of every Youth Council event to ensure success. Members are selected through an application process, and they are expected to take accountability for their responsibilities.

GOAL: The advisory committee strives to develop strategies, provide guidance, and secure resources in support of the Youth Council.
INITIATIVE: By collaborating with the Youth Council, the advisory committee provides assistance to committees and ensures Youth Council members are given the resources to enhance activity and foster growth.

The Hunger at Home Youth Council thanks its alumni for their dedication and commitment throughout their high school years. Many alumni continue to be involved in our initiatives through the advisory council, mentoring new members and aiding the Council's success. Alumni are also supported through a strong alumni community of friendship and support. Every year, the Youth Council hosts an Alumni Banquet & Graduation to gather alumni and continue the strong network of dedicated youth.
Through these committees, Youth Council members are able to get involved and delve into the details of food insecurity and the mission of Hunger at Home. By highlighting and utilizing each members' specialities, each committee is committed to provoke change and encourage the community to join our mission.
