Many preventable medical errors impede patient safety, such as incorrect medication, incorrect dosage, not using or overusing a prescription, forgetting about medication, and much more. These issues are preventable, yet around 40 percent of people have these issues, and worse is that a large portion of these issues are preventable.
There are two points at which errors can occur and those are from patient error and then pharmaceutical error. Dose Defender looks at both sides of the story. the first product aims to look at the patient error aspect where Dose Defender has created a cap for existing pill bottles that have simple timing capabilities, dispensing one pill at a time, retrofits to existing pill bottles, and has improved child-safe technology via the use of magnets. This will aim to solve the problem of people not taking their dosage on time and people taking too much of their dosage. The next point of error is through the pharmacy. For this issue, Dose Defender has created a website for making pharmaceutical labels and unlike conventional labels, these labels are patterned and color-coded so that they have another layer of safety before the bottle gets to the patient. This helps to solve the issue of mixing up bottles since conventionally they all look very similar, and this will just add another layer of distinguishability to help the pharmacist be more efficient while staying safe.
While we did everything we could in the time provided, we recognize that there are many improvements that could be made to improve usability.
