Assessments offer more than opportunities to measure student learning. They also have the potential to send cues of belonging and can cultivate meaningful connections between your course content and your students’ lives. In this workshop, you will hack the Canvas gradebook through the use of Mastery Pathways to allow students voice and choice in their assessment journey, and explore culturally responsive assessment ideas that harness the opportunities of mobile devices. When your students are no longer confined to a classroom, why should their learning be tied to a desk and one-size-fits-all assessments?

MICHELLE PACANSKY-BROCK
Hi folks. I am a first-generation equity practitioner. I'm a teacher at heart, turned online faculty developer. I believe that online courses – when intentionally designed and anchored in human connection – have the potential to revolutionize the structures of higher education by expanding access to those typically left out. Emotions are at the core of everything. We must lead and teach with care and kindness, regardless of our modality. I am a proud mom of two young adult, feminist sons. I am currently rekindling my interest in art making. I want all the weiner dogs.
