• Physical obstructions like walls, furniture, or people.
• Interference from metal objects or other Bluetooth devices.
• Signal strength settings of the beacon itself.
It’s crucial to set the beacon signal strength appropriately:
• If the signal is too weak, reminders may not trigger.
• If the signal is too strong, reminders may trigger in unintended locations.
Adjusting signal strength is straightforward and can be done through the app provided by your beacon’s manufacturer. Following these steps will ensure the app functions as intended, giving you reminders in the correct location at the right time.
If reminders aren’t appearing, it’s usually related to Reminder Settings or Beacon Signal Strength.
Steps to Troubleshoot Reminder Settings:
Edit Reminder Settings: Tap on any habit or task to check and adjust its settings.
Check for Common Issues:
Incorrect Beacon Info: Verify the UUID, Major, and Minor numbers.
Wrong Beacon Selected: Ensure the correct beacon is assigned to the habit/task.
Maximum Reminders Reached: Check and increase the maximum reminders allowed for the day.
Start and End Time Settings: Ensure reminders are set within the desired time range.
Day Settings: Verify that the reminder is set to repeat on the correct day(s).
Tips for Reminder Settings:
Reminders will only appear when all conditions are met: correct place, time, day, and within the maximum allowed reminders.
Beacon Signal Issues
If reminders are still not showing after checking settings, the problem might be with the beacon signal. Follow these steps:
Check Beacon Status:
Use the beacon manufacturer’s app (referred to here as the “Beacon App”) to verify the beacon is turned on.
To turn on the beacon, press and hold its power button (typically 3 seconds). Check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific details.
Adjust Beacon Signal Strength:
Open the Beacon App and find the “Tx Power” setting.
Increase signal strength (e.g., from -16 to -8) if the reminder isn’t triggering.
Be careful not to set the signal strength too high, as it might trigger reminders in multiple rooms.
Verify Beacon Info:
Ensure the UUID, Major, and Minor numbers in the Habit Location app match the values shown in the Beacon App.
Label Beacons Clearly: Assign meaningful names like “Living Room” or “Bedroom” in the Beacon App to make identification easier.
Activate Beacons One at a Time: This helps avoid confusion when assigning or troubleshooting.
Open the Beacon App and select the beacon.
Copy the UUID (tap and hold to access the copy option).
Open the Habit Location app, paste the UUID into the appropriate field.
If you use multiple beacons from the same manufacturer, the UUID might auto-populate in the Habit Location app after the first entry.
Habits: Recurring actions like exercising, journaling, or meditating. They reset daily and encourage consistent repetition.
Tasks: One-time or specific actions like “Buy a Christmas tree” or “Pay bills.” Tasks can also be set to repeat on specific dates or days.
To reduce reminders:
Adjust the Maximum Reminders setting for a habit. For example, reduce from 3 to 1 if you feel over-notified.
If building a new habit, it’s recommended to set more reminders initially to strengthen the habit, then reduce the frequency later.
The best images are personal and motivating. For example:
Use a picture of yourself when you were fit for exercise reminders.
Select an image that aligns with the task or habit for better motivation.
