How do I join H4H, and is there anything returning members need to do before volunteering?
You can join at any time during the semester—there is no deadline or application. Just follow the steps on our website to get started. If you were a member in a previous semester and are already blood pressure trained, you do not need to get retrained. If you want a refresher, you may request one from the screening host at any screening.
What should I do if I can’t attend general meetings because of a class or conflict?
If you can’t attend our GMs due to a conflict, you can let an officer know. In place of attending the meeting, we ask that you participate in one of our fundraising events. Dates and details for these events will be announced on Discord and Instagram.
How do I get trained for blood pressure and blood glucose, and what is required before attending screenings?
Blood pressure training takes place at any screening—no sign-up needed. You only need BP training to begin volunteering.
Blood glucose training involves attending a Zoom training session (link sent in Discord shortly before it begins) and then signing up for an in-person demo exam at the PCL. You must attend the Zoom session before doing the demo. At least one training is offered every month.
How do I sign up for screenings, and where can I find the schedule?
Screening signups drop every Sunday at 5 PM on Discord under the announcements tab. We offer nine different screening sites each week, and you can choose whichever fits your schedule. All screening times, locations, and transportation info are listed in the signup spreadsheet.
How do rides to screening sites work?
Rides are coordinated in the respective screening tab on Discord. The host or another attending member will typically offer to drive. If no ride is available, the signup spreadsheet includes bus routes you can use to get to the site.
When and how do I pay dues, and when do I need to fill out the membership form?
You can join at any time—just fill out the membership form and pay dues. All details and instructions can be found on the website.
What is the process for completing glucose certification?
You must attend a Zoom training (no sign-up required) and then register for an in-person demo exam. The sign-up link for demos is posted right after the Zoom session. You must complete both the training and the demo to become certified. You do not need to retake the online exam if you miss the demo immediately after your training.
Before completing the blood glucose demo, you must also attend two screenings. You can check your screening progress on our tracker.
How can I get an H4H shirt and stickers?
Stickers are handed out at our meetings, and you can also receive one by following H4H International on Instagram (@h4hintl). If you need to purchase or pick up a shirt, please contact Alex Hari on Discord to coordinate a pickup time.
Do I get volunteer hours, and what should I do if I have issues with the waitlist or finding training locations?
Yes, volunteer hours are awarded for screenings and other events. If you can’t find a training room or have questions about the waitlist, you can message the host in the corresponding Discord tab. Only the first person on the waitlist may move into an open screening spot.
