If you want a dedicated waterproof swimming solution that pairs seamlessly with an Apple Watch for underwater laps, choose H2O Audio Interval Waterproof Swimming; if you need versatile open-ear comfort for calls and outdoor workouts where situational awareness is critical, choose Ortizan Open Ear Headphones.
• H2O Audio Interval: Its biggest strength is its ability to handle total submersion in up to 12 feet of water with a secure goggle strap mount, but it lacks the versatility for dry land or general call usage due to its specialized design. This pick is strictly for swimmers who need audio while training in the pool or ocean.
• Ortizan Open Ear: It excels with Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity for crystal-clear calls and a lightweight 19g build that avoids ear canal pressure, yet it only offers IPX6 splash resistance rather than full waterproofing. This pick is ideal for runners, cyclists, and remote workers who prioritize call quality and all-day comfort.
The H2O Audio Interval is built for one specific environment: water. If your primary goal is to listen to music, podcasts, or interval timers while submerged, this device is engineered specifically for that purpose. It features a unique mounting system designed to clip directly onto your goggle strap, keeping the unit low-drag and secure even during vigorous strokes. The "Go Beyond Promise" warranty underscores its durability, offering protection against defects for up to a year, which gives buyers confidence in a product that faces harsh chlorine and saltwater daily.
This headphone utilizes bone conduction technology paired with dynamic in-ear speakers, a hybrid approach intended to deliver bass-amplified sound even when fully underwater. The IPX8 rating confirms it can withstand total submersion, making it the only viable option on this list for serious lap swimming. You control playback through physical buttons located on the device itself, allowing for easy volume adjustments and track skipping without needing to touch a phone. The battery life supports six hours of continuous play, which is sufficient for long training sessions or multi-lap practices.

However, this product is not designed for the average consumer looking for a general-purpose headset. It requires pairing specifically with an Apple Watch, as noted in the connectivity specifications, limiting its ecosystem compatibility. The design is compact, weighing just 10 grams, but the form factor is optimized for water sports, meaning it may not offer the same comfort or fit for extended wear during dry activities like office work or running. If you are not swimming, the specialized features become less relevant, and the inability to pair with standard smartphones for direct music streaming might be a significant drawback.
The Ortizan Open Ear Headphones are designed for people who need to stay connected to their environment while enjoying audio. The open-ear design is the standout feature here, cradling the ears without entering the ear canal. This prevents the discomfort and pressure buildup common with traditional in-ear buds, making them suitable for all-day wear. Weighing only 19 grams, they feel almost weightless, constructed from aviation-grade liquid silicone that resists sweat and corrosion. This makes them perfect for high-intensity cardio, cycling, or long commutes where heavy gear would be a distraction.
For those prioritizing communication, these headphones shine. They feature a built-in microphone with ENC noise reduction technology, ensuring that your voice remains clear during calls even in noisy environments. The latest Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity ensures a stable link with lower latency, supporting both SBC and AAC codecs for high-quality audio transmission. With a battery life of up to 10 hours, they outlast many competitors, and the magnetic fast charging allows you to get an hour of use from just ten minutes of charge. The IPX6 rating provides robust protection against sweat and rain, though it is not intended for full submersion.
These headphones are best suited for users who value situational awareness. Because they do not seal the ear canal, you can hear traffic, coworkers, or gym announcements while listening to your playlist. The directional sound generation technology aims to minimize sound leakage, so others nearby don't hear your music clearly, but the open design inherently prioritizes environmental safety over isolation. This makes them an excellent choice for "head phones for calls" in professional settings or casual conversations during a workout, where blocking out the world entirely is not desired.

I recommend the Ortizan Open Ear Headphones for most people because they offer a much broader range of utility, particularly for calls and mixed-use scenarios. While the H2O Audio Interval is a fantastic niche tool for swimmers, its requirement for an Apple Watch and lack of general smartphone pairing limits its everyday appeal. The Ortizan model strikes a better balance with superior battery life, modern Bluetooth 5.3 for reliable connections, and a comfortable open-ear design that supports everything from gaming headsets for calls to daily commute music. Unless you are a competitive swimmer who needs underwater audio, the Ortizan is the smarter, more flexible investment.
Yes, the Ortizan Open Ear Headphones are explicitly designed for this with a noise-reducing microphone and Bluetooth 5.3 stability, whereas the H2O Audio Interval is primarily for swimming and requires an Apple Watch connection.
The Ortizan Open Ear Headphones are lightweight enough (19g) and have an open design that minimizes pressure, making them potentially more comfortable for side-sleepers than traditional in-ear models, though neither is marketed specifically as "sleep headphones."
The H2O Audio Interval is built for total submersion up to 12 feet with an IPX8 rating, while the Ortizan Open Ear Headphones offer an IPX6 rating, protecting them from heavy sweat and rain but not underwater use.
No, the H2O Audio Interval connects via Bluetooth 5.0 and pairs directly with your Apple Watch for controls, utilizing physical buttons on the device for volume and track changes without requiring a separate app interface.
