Sanny says¸ “I want to.”

“Do you want to do morning exercises with me today?” asks her father.

People who have dinner in the evening have a smaller meal called lunch at midday¸ and people who have dinner at midday usually have another meal¸ which they call tea¸ between five and six o`clock¸ or they have supper a little later.
For most people¸ breakfast is a bowl of cereal followed by toast and marmalade with a cup of coffee or tea. Some people have a cooked breakfast (often bacon and eggs) but this is not as common as it used to be. Lunch is usually a very quick meal; most people have a sandwich or a light snack. Dinner may have two or three courses. First soup¸ then a main course with meat or fish and finally dessert.
It is probably true that British food does not have a very good reputation among people from overseas:
Remember: If you ask for coffee in Britain it will normally be served white. If you like coffee without milk you must ask specailly for a black coffee.
68. John`s school day
John gets up at half past seven in the morning. He has break fast at eight o`clock. He has tea and toast and strawberry jam for breakfast. He likes strawberry jam very much. Then he goes to school. He usually goes by bus¸ but sometimes his father drives him to school in the family car. He has lunch at school and goes home at 3. 00 in the afternoon. He gets home from school at half past three. English schools usually have a lot of clubs. John belongs to the Art club and Camera club. Jimmy goes to the Art club¸ too. He also belongs to the science club and the Music club.
In the evening John watches televisor or reads. He goes to bed at half past nine¸ but he reads a little in bed¸ too. He always goes to bed early and he usually sleeps very well. His mother says him<<Good night>> and gives him a kiss every night.

This year I spent my winter holidays in the suburbs of Ulaanbaatar¸ in BagaKhangay. It took us two hours to get there by bus. I am fond of country life and as a rule¸ spend mt holidays at a farm belonging to my grandmother. She lives in a village which is about one hundred twenty kilometres from my native town. My granny keeps a dog¸ two cats to catch mice and rats¸ a cow¸ sheep¸ goats¸ pigs¸ rabbits¸ poultry as geese¸ ducks. cocks¸ hens¸ chickens and turkeys;bees in bee - hives.
Winter is beautiful season of the uear. Trees¸ fields¸ parks¸ streets and houses are white with snow.
Children and grown - ups enjoy skiing and skating. I am fond of skiing and skating¸ too. I met my friends and we played and spent much time together.
I helped my grammy to feed domestics and cleaned the yard.
I had a very good time in winter.

73. Why Rabbit have got short tails
Once there lived a Babbit. His name is was Bunny. He was grey and big bigger than his Brother Bonny. But he had no tail. And wanted to have a long tail¸ longer than that of Mistress Fox.
One day Bunny went for a walk. He saq Mistress Fox.
- Hello¸ Mistress Fox¸ - he said. - Where are you going?
- What are you going to buy?
- I am going to buy a tail
- But you have got a tail!I think it`s the longest and the most beautiful tail!
- Well¸ but I want a new one¸ longer and more beautiful one than my old tail.
- Oh. please¸ Mistress Fox¸ buy a tail for me¸ too. Look at me¸ I haven`t got a tail.
- Ok said the Fox and ran to the shop.
In the shop Mrs. Fox bought only one tail. It was a beautiful long red tail¸ it was longer abd more beautiful than her old tail.
She ran back home. On the way home she saw Brother Rabbit. Bunny looked at the Fox`s tail and said.
- Oh¸ what a beautiful tail you have got. And where is my tail?
- I`m sorry - saud the Fox¸ - But there wasn`t any tail for you
Poor little Bunny!He was so sorry. Mistres Fox hadn`t bought a new tail for him!
A dog who was running by come up to Bunny and said:
- What`s the matter with you?
- Oh - said Bunny¸ - all the animals have got long¸ beautiful tails but I haven`t got a tail!
- Poor little Bunny! - said the Dog.
At the time a Cat was running by.
- Bunny! I have got an idea. I think I know how to help you!
And he run after the Cat¸ bit off a little piece of the Cat`s tail and give to Bunny. Bunny was happy!
- Thank you very much – he said¸ - Now I have got a tail¸ too…It is a very short tail¸ but it is a tail.
That is why Rabbits have got short tails.
74. The Fox and the grapes
One hot summer day the fox hunted for miles and miles without seeing a bird¸ rabbit¸ or even a tiny mouse. In the heat of the noonday sun he looked for a shady glen in which to rest his dusty¸ tired feet.
“Oh¸ for a cool¸ cool drink¸ or some delicious fruit with which to quench my thirst¸ “saud the fox¸ as his tongue hung from his parched jaws.
Ahead a green garden loowed –as fresh and sparling as could be. On a white trellis hung the most fragrant¸ luscious grapes he had ever seen.
Round and purple –the large grapes hung in heavy clusters –just the very thing for his noon refreshment.
Standing very tall upon his hind legs the fox could not reach the sweet¸ juicy grapes.
Then taking a running start¸ the fox leaped high into the air – and with wide jaws snapped at the lowest bunch of grapes.
He missed! He didn`t jumps high enough even for the lowest cluster.
The fox tried again and again – and still again. He missed each time. Nopw he was so weary and even more thirsty that he turned away.
With his busy tail high in the air¸ he left the garden; he grumbled¸ “Sour grapes¸ just sour grapes¸ I didn`t wand them anyway. “By Aesop

79. The Country Mouse and the City Mouse

The house was elegant. . . chandeliers¸ deep carpets that was full of the very best ever seen. Swiss cheese¸ salty bacon¸ deicious fruita¸ colorfur vegetables¸ jellies and fresh bisquits – all were there¸ reafy to eat.
Hungry from their long journey¸ the city mouse and the country mouse began their feast¸ tasting one mouth - watering bit of food after another.
Suddenly a heavy door slammed¸ loud footsteps of big boots were heard – the threatening deep purr of an angry cat chilled the air.
“What was that? “the country mouse stuttered.
“Oh¸ that is the master with his big Siamese cat. “
“Good - by¸ cousin. “the country mouse squealed as he leaped through the hole in the pantry wall. “I`m going back to the meadow in the country. I prefer to live with the woods¸ the tall mountains and the fresh gurgling streams rather than in your exciting city. “By Aesop

One day the mice of the the white shuttered cottage at the end of the lane met in secret council to discuss their biggest problem – the cat of the house!
Their enemy stalked the mice day and night. Quietly¸ stealthily¸ with no warning¸ the cat struck repeatedly at the mice until they were so frightened and nervous that something had to be done.
The meeting brought about many suggestions from the mice. Each one shouted more loudly than the others.
“Slay the cat¸ “shouted one angry mouse.
“Set fire to his tail¸ “proposed another.
The meeting became wild and disorderly.
Then one of the swaggering young mice called for attenion. Looking with great disdain and affected patience he began¸ “I have the solution for you that I have thought of myself. I can simplity your problem of the dangerous cat if you will do just as I say. “
The mice cheered and applauded warmly.
The young mouse was so proud of himself¸ he posed and strutted as the rest of the mice waited breathlessy for his announcement.
“Fasten a bell to the cat¸ “exclaimed the young mouse. “A stout ribbon with a loud bell attached to the cat`s neck will warn us of the cat`s approach. “
Bedlam struck¸ the mice danced wildly and hugged each other with joy.
A wise old mouse rapped his cane for silence. Wiping his glasses¸ the aged one questioned¸ “Who will bell the cat? “By Aesop

The lion growled threateningly and huffed up to giant size ¸ but with a twinkle in his eyes replied¸ “So a little tiny mouse is able to do a favor for the King of the Beasts. Well now¸ that IS a real fairy tale. “The lion laughed¸ “A little pip - squeak like you – I`ll let you go¸ but don`t awaken me from my nap again. “
Long afterward the lion was ranging through the jungle when suddenly he fell into a deep trap and became tangled in a very strong net. He ROARED so loud in anger that the cocnut trees shook and the echoes of his roar could be heard for miles.
The little mouse¸ feeding on little seeds and roots¸ heard the voice of his friend. He dashed to the trap; scampered down into the pit. Without a moment`s delay the mouse gnawed quickly through the ropes with his sharp teeth.
Soon freed¸ the lion bounded out of the snare and ran hurriedly to his den before the hunters arrived. The King of the Jungle made such a quick departure he even forgot to thank his little friend. By Aesop

94. The Hare and the Tortoise
A young hare¸ so proud of his fleetness¸ pertered all those around him¸ challenging them with a speed race. His bragging grew tiresome especially whem he poked fun at the tortoise.
To keep peace in the forest¸ the tortiose slowly said¸ “I`ll run a race with you¸ and I accept your challenge. “
The fox¸ chosen as judge¸ drew a starting line and said¸ “The one who reaches the big white birch tree first shall be declared the winner. “
Excitedly the forst creatures gathered along the sidelines – everyone cheered encouragement to the tortiose; the pompous bragging of the hare had tired their ears.
“Go! “
The hare took off like the wind;his feet beat a steady drumbeat as he flew down the course. The tortoise lifted one foot¸ then brought in down¸ then another foot¸ then another. Slowly and steadily his heavy sheelled body moved forward.
The hare looked over his shoulder¸ he was halfway to go goal – and saw that tortoise had just left the starting line.
He laughed and thought he`d rest¸ perhaps even take a nap in the cool grass. “I have plenty time – that slowpoke tortoise is so far behind – and the sun is hot. “
So the hare dozed and feel into a deep sleep kn the shade of a cool fern.
The tortoise plodded forward every minute without stopping for a rest . He passed the sleeping hare – and soon crossed the finish line to the cheers of his friends.
The joyous shout awakened the hare¸ but it was too late. The race was over. He turned dejectedly¸ much ashamed¸ and left the forest. By Aesop

99. The dog and the Reflection
A large greedy dog stood at the open door of the village butcher shop. The butcher left for just a moment to get another side of beef.
On his chopping block lay a freshly - cut T - bone steak that tantalized the dog`s nortrils until they quivered.
Instantly¸ the dog bounded into the shop¸ snapped the T - bone between his dripping jaws¸ turned quickly¸ and was off to the woods as fast as his fleet legs would carry him.
Running past cottages and farms into the open countryside he lost even the fastest pursuer. The dog slakened his pace to catch his wind.
His mouth watered at just the thought of eating watered at just the thought of eating this stolen steak. Crossing over a small wooden bridge¸ across a crystal clear stream¸ the dog noticed his identical relection in the water below.
Jealous and greedy¸ the hair on the back of his stood up in anger.
This reflected intruder was a threat to the dog. Preparing to give battle¸ the dog growled menacingly and lowered his head to attack.
So did the dog mirrored in the stream.
The dog charged to the edge of the birdge and BARKED his fiercest BARK!
The tender and juicy T - bone steak dropped out of the dog`s moutn and fell into the deep water below and he never found it again. By Aesop

Mum: What did you do with the money I gave you yesterday?
Tom: I gave it to poor old lady.
Mum: You are a good boy. Here are two more cents. But why are you so interested in that old lady?

104. The Crow and the Pitcher
The arid summer had dried up the brooks and ponds. A black crow wheeled with outstretched wings looking for water to to qeunch his growing thirst.
The crow`s sharp eye spied a pitcher in the dintance. Swooping down¸ the ebony crow alighted on the rim and stretched as far as it could. The bottom of the pitcher had cool refreshing water – but the crow could not each it.
“ I shall die of thirst unless I get some of this water¸ “cawed the crow. “What shall I do? I cannot reach the water with my bill. “
Pebbles of all sizes and colors were on the ground nearby. Taking one at a time into his bill he dropped each one gentlyminto the pitcher. As each pebble settled to the bottom¸ the water rose just a little bit. Soon as pebbles filled much of the pitcher¸ the water was at the brim.
Now perched on the rim¸ with water within reach¸ the happy crow drank the cool water to quench his thirst. By Aesop

The shiny black crow swooped onto a big branch in the oak forest. She had just stolen a large morsel from a meat pie that was coolong in a cottage window.

“ A good morning to you¸ friend crow¸ “the fox called. “How lovely you look today. In fact¸ I never realized that you are really a beautiful bird. “
The sleek crow pretended not to hear – but it was noticeable that her head raised proudly and she perched just a little bit taller.
“ Young glossy wings glisten in the sun¸ “of your from is a delight to the eye. Truly¸ you look like the gueen of the birds. I`m sure gentle voice is just as sweet. “
The crow ruffled her feather delightedly and felt a modest blush come to her jet black cheeks.
“ Trill your melodious voice throughout the green forest and proclaim to birds and animals alike that your happy song reigns supremely¸ “prompted the fox.
With a deep breath¸ the crow squawked a shrill¸ harsh “Caw! Caw! “
The meat fell immediately from the crow`s mouth and was quickly snatched in midair by Reynard¸ the fox. He licked his lips as he chewed the tasty meat – and he jauntily continued his walk into the woods. By Aesop

114. The Fox Without a Tail
“ SNAP “
The fos whirled aroud at the sound to see and steel trap close painfully on his red bushy tail.
He had stumbled clumsily on a hidden stump as he chased a little brown bunny rabbit.
The strong steel jaws dripped tightly. Afraid he would lose his head if the trapper found him¸ the fox pulled and turned¸ turned and trap – but also free from his tail.
The beautiful furry tail stayed in the trap as the fox sulked back to his home – a fox who had been so proud of his bushy tail – now with only a bit of a tail stump.
“ Look here¸ “he said¸ “how wonderful it is to be without the encumbrance of a long heavy tail. “

A hungry wolf trailed a flock of grazing fat sheep for many days. The shepherd`s dogs protected the sheep and watched for any menacing enemy of the flock.
One day the wolf found a sheep`s skin that had been discarded. He covered his own fur with it and went slinkingly into the flock¸ unnoticed by the sheep – or the shepherd – or his watchful dogs.

London stands not far from the sea and many ships from other countries came to the port of London and brought cotton¸ food and other things. Factories grew in London and other cities. Many shops were opened in the centre of London. In 1863 (eighteen - sixty - three) the first underground railway began to work. It was very short in those days.
Now London is a beautiful city with large squares and parks. London is one of the biggest cities in the world.

There are very many cars¸ trolleybuses and trams in the street.
70. London has got a very fine old Zoo¸ which many children with their parents and friends visit every day. The Zoo is in a large park which is not far from the centre of London. Many old trees grow in the park¸ and in spring¸ summer and autumn there are a lot of beautiful flowers there too.
The Zoo is open every day from nine o`clock in the morning to seven o`clock in the evening. People who want to go there can go by bus or by the underground and bus. A lot of buses go to the different sides of the park. Many kinds of animals live there: elephants¸ giraffes¸ sealions and polar bears¸ brown bears and foxes¸ and big and little monkeys. There are many different kinds of birds there too. Some of them have very beautiful bright colours.
71. A good time to visit the animals is when they take their food. Then you can see how the sea - lions catch their fish. The man who looks after the animals sometimes throws a fish into the water¸ then the sea - lions jump into the water and get the fish there. It is also interesting to watch how the big birds eat their meat¸ and how the monkeys eat fruit.
In the large monkey house you can see different kinds of monkeys. They jump¸ run and play with each other. In the park there are camels. Children love to sit on a camel`s back. Then it walks in the square and they sit high up on its back. They also like to watch the elephant when he washes himself in the morning. He puts water on his back and men with long brushes make him very clean.
In the children`s Zoo children can watch and talk to and touch young animals. Of course the people who look after the young animals watch the children too.
If people want to see the fishes they must go to another house and pay a second time. The fishes are in a great glass box. There are many different kinds of beautiful fishes there. It is very interesting.
72. Many years ago the London Zoo had a young elephant from Africa. The elephant was very small. His name was Jumbo. Jumbo grew very quicly. Soon he learned to carry people on his back. The people of London knew Jumbo and liked him. A man looked after him. His name was Scott.
One day a rich American saw Jumbo. He wanted to buy him and take him to America to show Jumbo in the circus there and to make a lot of money. He paid the London Zoo two thousand dollars for Jumbo. When the people of London heard about it¸ they wrote letters and articles to newspapers and organized meeting of protest. But nothing helped. Scott began to prepare to go to America with Jumbo to look after him there.
There were meetings of protest in the streets¸ squares and at the Port. The people wanted Jumbo to stay in the London Zoo. But Jumbo and Scott went to America on a ship. In America Jumbo was a circus elephant. He learned to carry things from one place to another and he danced. The Americans also liked Jumbo.
73. English is the language of the people of England. England is in the south of the is land of Great Britain. In the north of this is land lies to the west of Great Britain. More than a thousand years ago the people who lived in these four countries were different¸ and they spoke different languages.
Greet Britain is not a large country. It is much smaller than France or Norway and smaller than Finland. England is the largest part of Greet Britain and it has always been the strongest. Today the official name of Greet Britain is the United Kingdom of Greet Britain and Northern Ireland. English is the official language in all parts of the country.
In the United States of America English is called the national language¸ the language of the American nation.
74. Four hundred years ago some English people sailed to North America to live there¸ and they brought the English language to this new country. After them came people from all the couintries of Europe. And they all learned English¸ but they made it a little different from British English. In the USA now people speak American English. Very many words are the same in American and in British English¸ but the American people do not speak the English language in the same way ar people do in England.
Canada is to the north of the United States of America. It is very large country¸ larger than the United States¸ I Canada many people speak English¸ because they also came from England many years ago. But in some parts of Canada they speak French. The people who live in these parts came to Canada from France. Canada has two official lamguages – English and French.
75. If you look at Australia on the map of the world¸ you will see that it is to the south of the Equator. It is the smallest continent and the largest is land on the map. It is sometimes called the fifth continent.
Australia is also an English speaking country. In all countries which lie to the south of the Equator. In Australia the hottest summer month is January. And the coldest winter month is June. But June is not very cold. Snow falls only on the mountains there¸ and there are not many mountains in Australia. It is colder in the south of Australia and hotter in the north.
Australia is very far fr5om England. But many people from England¸ Wales¸ Scotland and Ireland came to live in Australia many years ago.
76. New Zealand is not far from Austrlia¸ but it is a great distance from Britain. When it is the middle of the night in Britain¸ it is the middle of the next day in New Zealand. The seasons in new Zealand are also different from what they are in Britain. From December to February it is summer¸ from March to May it is autumn¸ from June to August it is winter¸ and from September to November it is spring. The weather is summer is not very hot in the greater part of the country and the days in winter are not very cold. Snow falls on the mountains and sometimes in the far south of the country.
The national language in New Zealand is also English. Many people from England¸ Wales¸ Scotland and Ireland came to live in New Zealand many years ago¸ too.
77. When you speak English¸ you pronounce about fifty sounds¸ but the English alphabet has only twenty - six letters. It is difficult for you to read and write in English and it is difficult for English boys and girls too. Some of them do not like to read English books¸ and when they write¸ they make many mistakes in spelling.
There are many silent letters in English words.
You must write them¸ but you must not pronounce them¸ when you read.
In these words the letter E is silent: plate¸ time¸ nose¸ tube.

78. The Tower of London is a very old building in London. It is nine hundred years old. The Tower of London stands on the Thames.
In the early days of the history of England the English kings lived in the Tower. Then it was a prison where many people died¸ black ravens had much food near the walls of the Tower in those years.
The black ravens live in the gardens of the Tower now. The English people like them very much. A man looks after the ravens and gives them meat in the morning and in the evening.
Now the Tower of London is a museum and many people from other countries come to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors. The walls of the Tower are five metres thick. In the museum they can see many old guns.
At ten o`clock every evening the guards lok the big doors of the Tower for the night.
79. The Houses of Parliament is a very large building which stands near the Thames. There are two tall tower at the corners of the building and one of them is the Clock Tower.
