Traveller Story 1 • Traveller Story 2
Land at Dimapur and meet your trip captain, then leave the plains behind. The road climbs steadily through pine-covered ridges and small roadside villages, expect a tea stop along the way, and your first real view down into the valleys as you gain altitude. By late afternoon you'll roll into Kohima, a hill capital that mixes Angami tradition with a genuinely good café scene.
Evening is unstructured. Drop your bags, then wander Kohima's local market for handwoven shawls and roadside snacks before regrouping for a welcome dinner where the rest of the week gets mapped out over the first proper Naga thali of the trip.
Today's Experiences:
Scenic mountain drive
Reaching Kohima, leisure evening
Coffee tasting
Overnight: Kohima
Morning starts with the drive to Khonoma, India's first Green Village, and the site of one of Nagaland's most significant historical stands against colonial forces. Walk the stone-paved lanes past traditional Angami homes, climb to the old fort ruins, and see the terrace farming system the village has protected for generations, including the community conservation zone that helped save the endangered Blyth's tragopan.
After a home-cooked Angami lunch, continue deeper into the hills to Dzuleke, a smaller, quieter eco-village where the pace drops noticeably. Forest trails, a slow riverside walk, and enough stillness to actually hear the birdlife the region is known for, before the drive back to Kohima as the light goes gold.
• Heritage village walk
• Khonoma fort
• Traditional Angami houses
• Terrace farming

Today's adventure takes you to one of India's most spectacular alpine landscapes.
A short drive to Viswema puts you at the trailhead by mid-morning. The climb starts steep through forest cover, then eases onto an open ridge, the kind of trail where you stop talking for stretches just to look. Around the halfway point the trees fall away and the first real view of the valley opens up: rolling, treeless hills folded into each other, nothing like the rest of Nagaland.
Unlike most visitors, you won't turn back the same day. As the day-trippers head home, the valley empties into peaceful wilderness, you'll settle into the guesthouse, wander the meadows, find the stream, and watch the light change over the hills before it gets properly cold after dark.
Drive: 16-18 kms
Trek: 7–8 kms
Duration: 4–5 Hours
• Mountain ridge trail
• Rhododendron forest
• Alpine meadows
• Sunset at Dzukou
• Overnight valley stay
Overnight Stay: Dzukou Valley Guesthouse
Set an alarm before dawn, this is the payoff for staying overnight. Mist sits low in the folds of the valley as the light comes up, and it's worth pushing further into the meadows if legs allow, since the crowds that arrive later in the day won't be there yet. Breakfast, then the trek back down to Viswema and a drive to Kohima.
Afternoon shifts from wilderness to heritage: Kisama Heritage Village, the permanent home of the Hornbill Festival, where all sixteen Naga tribes have built traditional morungs (bachelor houses) side by side. It's quieter outside festival season, but that's when you can actually look at the craftsmanship instead of a crowd. Time permitting, round out the day at the Mary Help of Christians Cathedral and the Kohima War Cemetery, one of the most significant WWII memorials in Asia.

• Morning valley walk
• Trek down
• Kisama Heritage Village
Overnight Stay: Kohima
Leave the bustle of Kohima behind as you journey through winding mountain roads, picturesque villages, and untouched forests towards Kapamodzu Peak, one of Nagaland's most rewarding yet lesser-explored viewpoints. Far from the usual tourist trail, this hidden gem offers a peaceful escape into nature, where every turn reveals breathtaking mountain vistas and the quiet charm of the Eastern Himalayas.
A moderate trek through lush forests leads you to the summit, where panoramic views stretch across rolling hills, deep valleys, and distant peaks. Take time to soak in the serenity, capture unforgettable photographs, and simply enjoy the silence that makes this place so special. After spending quality time at the summit, descend to the base and drive back to Kohima, where a memorable farewell dinner awaits as you celebrate an incredible journey through Nagaland.
