Apple\u2019s iMessage protocol works over Apple Push Notification service, which most developers would be familiar as the service that allows them to send push notifications to their iOS applications. For iMessage protocol, all messaging traffic flows over this service in both directions, encrypted with keys generated locally on each device. Beeper Mini connects to APNs over TCP, using the credentials generated during the login process.
