Principle Investigator
Malathi Thothathiri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at GWU. She got her Ph.D. in Psychology from Harvard University and completed her post-doctoral at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute and the University of Pennsylvania. When she's not thinking about language and the brain, she likes to hike, travel, read, cook and solve cryptic crossword puzzles.
Undergraduate Research Assistants
Skylar Kalechstein is a senior majoring in Psychology with minors in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Organizational Sciences. Her research focuses on surprisal, which measures how unexpected a word or linguistic structure is within a given context, providing insight into how the brain processes language. Skylar is also interested in applying AI tools and R-Script to analyze data and design experimental stimuli for participants
Togzhan Serikova is a senior majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry. Her research investigates how motivation influences cognitive control in stroke survivors with aphasia, aiming to better understand the mechanisms that support recovery and language function.
