Principle Investigator
Malathi Thothathiri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at GWU. She got her Ph.D. in Psychology from Harvard University and completed her post-doctoral at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute and the University of Pennsylvania. When she's not thinking about language and the brain, she likes to hike, travel, read, cook and solve cryptic crossword puzzles.
Undergraduate Research Assistants
Skylar Kalechstein is a senior majoring in Psychology with minors in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Organizational Sciences. Her research focuses on surprisal, which measures how unexpected a word or linguistic structure is within a given context, providing insight into how the brain processes language. Skylar is also interested in applying AI tools and R-Script to analyze data and design experimental stimuli for participants
Togzhan Serikova is a senior majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry. She is from Almaty, Kazakhstan and loves to hike! Her research focuses on measuring the effects of intrinsic motivation and intrinsic reward on cognitive control; she hopes to help people who have been affected by aphasia in their rehabilitation process.
Hanna Sayyar is a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience. In her free time, she loves baking and playing volleyball! Her research interests involve exploring the influence of intrinsic motivation on those with cognitive impairments.
Hogan Neiswender is a freshman. In his free time, he loves to rock climb! He is interested in learning about the effects of language on neurological processes.
