The EPL (Energy and Power system Laboratory) is a research group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Gangneung-Wonju National University (GWNU). The main areas of research in the EPL are the development of advanced gas turbine combustors for power generation and aviation, and the combustion instability modeling. These include developments and applications of advanced combustor design programs, 1D and 3D closed-loop instability models, and the instability control algorithms. Recently, research interests have been expanding to develop hydrogen gas turbine combustion technology and machine-learning based combustor diagnostics tool.

강릉원주대 김대식 교수 연구팀,

‘두산중공업 차세대 가스터빈 기술협력 연구실’ 선정

강릉원주대학교(총장 반선섭) 기계공학과 에너지동력시스템 연구실(지도교수 김대식)이 ‘두산중공업 차세대 가스터빈 기술협력 연구실’로 선정되었다.

이날 행사에는 두산중공업 박홍욱 파워서비스BG장, 손정락 산업부 R&D 전략기획단 에너지산업 MD와 강릉원주대 김대식 교수를 비롯한 10개 대학 연구실 교수들이 참석했고, 최근 가스터빈 국산화 기술 개발에 기여한 국내 대학 연구팀과 기술협력 연구실 인증 수여식을 진행했다.

인증 현판 수여와 더불어 대한민국 최초로 개발된 대형 가스터빈 S1 모델의 성능시험 성공 성과를 공유하였고, 앞으로 차세대 수소 가스터빈 개발에 있어 두산중공업과 대학 연구실 간의 기술협력을 강화해 나가기로 했다.

김대식 교수는 2021년 수소터빈 로드맵 기획위원장과 탄소중립 로드맵 청정연료 발전분과 기획위원으로 활동하고 있으며, 현재 한국형 복합발전용 가스터빈 개발과 수소터빈 연소 기술 개발에 대한 국책 연구 과제에 참여하고 있다.

지난 2020년에는 두산중공업, 한국기계연구원, 한국지역난방공사 및 발전공기업 등과 ‘수소 가스터빈 연소기 개발 및 수소터빈 실증사업 협력’ MOU를 체결한 바가 있다.

EPL is looking for highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in hydrogen power plant, gas turbine development for aero-engines or stationary plant, numerical model (1D, 3D) development for combustion field, and machine-learning based combustor diagnostics tool development.
