This month we asked Garnishment Director, Amber Ledford, to tell us what questions she and her staff answer on a daily basis.

Frequently Asked Questions from Garnishments:

Q: Where is my money?

A: The biggest delay in disbursement of funds is missing the certificate of service and/or proof of service on the defendant as well as a missing request for funds. Please make sure you have properly filed both to ensure your funds are not delayed.

Q: I recently filed bankruptcy, now what?

A: We need to know if there is a pending bankruptcy in a garnishment action. Just let our office know by sending a copy of the bankruptcy filing and reference the garnishment case. Similarly, if the bankruptcy case has been resolved, let us know!

Q: I see the Garnishee filed an answer, what does it say?

A: Employees of the Clerk’s Office are not permitted to read the contents of documents to callers. Please visit re:SearchGA and register for an account. Once registered, you may search and purchase copies of most documents you need.
