About Us

Lian Zhao

received the Ph.D.degree from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2002. She joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELCE), Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, as an Assistant Professor in 2003. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007. Her research interests include wireless communications, radio resource management, power control, cognitive radio and cooperative communications, and design and applications of energy-efficient wireless sensor networks. Jaideep Kalsi

is currently in his last year of his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering at Ryerson University while specializing in Energy Systems. He currently works at JK Electric Motors Inc. as a part time assistant applying the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom to the engineering industry of the repair of electric motors. After graduating, he would like to pursue a career in the power sector.


Quang Ly

is currently working towards his bachelors degree in electrical engineering at Ryerson University. He graduated from Northview Heights Secondary School in North York, ON. He has just completed his second year and is currently working under the supervision of Dr. Lian Zhao as a student research assistant in energy efficiency optimization in communication systems.

Mushu Li

obtained her Bachelor Degree from University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in 2015. She is currently pursuing her MASci. degree at Ryerson University. She has been awarded OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship) in 2015 and 2016 respectively and Aditya Jha Diversity Award from Ryerson University to recognize her academic achievement in 2016. Her research interests are load balancing for smart grid, EV charging scheduling, and system optimizations.

Ajmery Sultana

received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in applied physics, electronics and communication engineering from the University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. She is currently pursuing the PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering at Ryerson University, Canada. She is also an Assistant Professor (on leave) with University of Information Technology & Sciences (UITS), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her current research interests include resource allocation in cognitive and cooperative communication systems, and device-to-device communication.

Mohammad Baljon

received the B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2007. He also obtained the M.Eng. degree in Internetworking Engineering from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada, in 2012. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. Currently, his research interests include energy harvesting networks, relay systems, wireless communications and green communications.

Peter He

received his M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada, in 2009. He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada, in 2015. Currently, he is a NSERC supported postdoc research fellow at University of Waterloo. His research interests are the union of large-scale optimization, information theory, communications, and smart power grid. During his PhD study, he had continuously received Graduate Research Excellence Award in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University; and the Best Paper Award of the 2013 International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP).
