Evaluating College Students' Awareness and Utilization of Natural Language Generation AI in Private Higher Education Institutions of Koronadal City, Philippines

ABSTRACT

This study examines the level of awareness and utilization of Natural Language Generation (NLG) AI tools, specifically ChatGPT, Bing, and Gemini, among college students in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Philippines. Using a descriptive correlational research design, data were gathered from 68 students across various higher education institutions through a semi-structured survey. The study explored students' knowledge of NLG AI functionalities, training processes, data handling, and applications. Results revealed a moderate to high level of awareness, with ChatGPT being the most commonly used tool. Students frequently employed NLG AI for academic purposes, including text generation and productivity enhancement. Simple linear regression analysis indicated a significant positive relationship between awareness and utilization, suggesting that students with higher awareness levels are more likely to use these tools. The findings highlight the importance of promoting AI literacy to maximize the benefits of NLG technology in academic settings. This study offers valuable insights into the role of awareness in NLG AI tool usage among students. .

EXPLORING LANGUAGE BARRIER CHALLENGES: LIVED EXPERIENCES OF BSED-ENGLISH BLAAN STUDENTS IN LEARNING ENGLISH

ABSTRACT

Language barriers cause significant challenges and hinder Blaan students in learning English while pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) major in English. This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of five (5) BSED-English Blaan students enrolled at Green Valley College Foundation, Incorporated, focusing on language barriers in learning English. The study examines how these barriers affect the English language journey of Blaan students through well-organized interviews and thematic analysis, highlighting their experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms. The findings reveal two main themes: (1) Lack of vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar awareness; and (2) Challenges in communication in diverse cultures. These insights emphasize the various language barriers Blaan students face and highlight the importance of providing support and tools to help them learn English and understand different cultures, thereby avoiding miscommunication and misunderstandings.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND DISABILITY INCLUSION: LIVED EXPERIENCES OF FOOD BUSINESS EMPLOYERS ON HIRING PWDs

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the opinions and experiences of the three food establishments in the Philippines when it comes to disability inclusion. The study's goal is to examine the firms' motives, techniques, and obstacles in promoting disability inclusion, as well as the impact of their efforts on their corporate culture and bottom line. The study takes a qualitative method, with semi-structured interviews conducted with key individuals from Gryk's Food House, Taverne Bar, and Mall of Ace Centerpoint. The findings show a dedication to disability inclusion that extends beyond legislative requirements, embracing various perspectives, creative problem-solving, and caring approaches. These businesses serve as role models for promoting disability inclusion in the food sector, showcasing the potential for positive social change as well as financial success through inclusive practices..

Assessing Tourists' Perceptions of Mass Tourism's Environmental Impact in Lake Sebu, Philippines

ABSTRACT

Mass tourism has become a significant driver of economic growth in many destinations but has also raised concerns regarding its environmental impact. This study assesses tourists’ perceptions of the environmental consequences of mass tourism in selected tourism destinations in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, Philippines. Using a descriptive cross-sectional survey method, data was gathered from 99 respondents through a structured questionnaire. The study examines tourists' awareness, attitudes, and perceived severity of environmental issues such as habitat degradation, resource depletion, and cultural landscape alteration. Key findings indicate that tourists generally recognize the high volume of visitors and its associated environmental impacts, with habitat degradation (M=3.54), resource depletion (M=3.45), and cultural changes (M=3.48) being notable concerns. However, statistical analysis revealed no significant differences in perceptions when grouped by income, place of origin, and sex, while frequency of visits significantly influenced perceptions (p=0.020), suggesting that frequent visitors are more aware of tourism’s environmental impact. These findings emphasize the need for sustainable tourism strategies, including better tourism management, stricter environmental policies, and educational initiatives to encourage responsible travel behaviors. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers, business owners, and local tourism stakeholders to mitigate the negative effects of mass tourism and promote environmental conservation in Lake Sebu. Future research should explore longitudinal studies on evolving tourist perceptions and the effectiveness of sustainable tourism policies in the region.

Integration of Solar, Wind, and Micro-hydro Systems for Streetlight Illumination along the Irrigation Canal

ABSTRACT

Renewable energy sources play a crucial role in addressing the global challenges of climate change and energy sustainability. Solar, wind, and micro-hydro are three promising renewable energy technologies that are gaining traction worldwide. Combining these three sources of renewable energy in a system can offer numerous advantages. This study was conducted to integrate the solar, wind, and micro-hydro systems for streetlight illumination along the irrigation canal of Barangay Sto. Niño, City of Koronadal, South Cotabato. The researchers used one-way analysis of variance and Bonferroni correction to know if there is a significant difference in solar, wind and micro-hydro renewable energy sources. The researchers were able to integrate solar, wind, and micro-hydro systems for streetlight illumination. The highest average input reading of wattage, amperage, and voltage in solar panel is 62.9 W, 4.65 A, and 13.53 V, respectively. For the wind turbine, the highest average reading are 21.77 W, 8.75 A, and 11.35 V. For the micro-hydro, the highest reading is 408.2 W, 26 A, and 15.7 V. Lastly, the hybrid system has the highest average reading with 462.75 W, 35.3 A and 13.16 V compared to the three sources. There is significant difference in wattage (0.00000104), amperage (0.00000613), and voltage (0.00000295) in all groups based on the One-way Analysis of Variance. The Hybrid system is more efficient in harnessing amperage, voltage and wattage compared to the solar panel, wind turbine and micro-hydro turbine individually.
