This month we will explore single rigid transformations, sequences of rigid transformations, and dilations. We will also dive into fundamental angle relationships, such as the triangle angle sum theorem, the exterior angle theorem, and parallel lines cut by a transversal. Finally, we will master linear functions by learning how to calculate the slope of a graphed line, identify the initial value of a graphed line and write its equation in slope-intercept form.

Students work to find a way to get energy to batteries that rescue workers’ electrical devices need, even during power outages, and this serves as the design problem for the unit. Students explore relationships between different types of energy and the ways energy is transferred and converted. To solve the rescue team’s energy problem, students research various ways to capture and store energy. Then, students apply their knowledge about energy to design an energy system that can use human kinetic energy to power an electrical device.

This month in ELA we will be learning the difference between topic and theme. Students will begin by identifying themes in cartoon clips, then move on to identifying themes in several short stories.  

We will be exploring the differences that helped shape the United States and ultimately led to the division and into a Civil War.
