2001 Porsche Carrera.
Manual.
No sunroof.
140k miles
This car drives abolutely wonderfully.
A complete suspension refresh has been carried out less than 1000 miles ago, with TRW and CTE arms, links, tie rods etc. Koni Special Active dampers, H&R progressive springs with Porsche bump stops, top mounts etc.
The rear arms were done back in 2018 at 124k miles.
It then had PS4s fitted front and rear, 225 front and 265 rear, and a Hunter 4 wheel alignment done with a fast road geo done. (Actually had the Geo done 3 times to get t to feel exactly how I liked it, and now have those settings for any future changes.).
The steering now goes where you point the wheel, it weights up perfectly as you pick up speed, and the handling is very neautral, no understeer and oversteer only there when you seriously provoke it.
This was a C4, however, I removed the AWD system and converted it to RWD.
This was done properly including using C2 front wheel carriers and suspension.
Steering is nicer, you can feel the weight difference up front and I have not felt I have lost anything at all in the way of traction even in heavy rain. If I lived in the mountains or where there is snow 5 months of the year I might think differently, but for the UK I see no gain. Oh, and I now get around 270-310 miles per tank instead of 220-255 with the AWD system.
Many of the niggly bits that these cars suffer from as they age have been sorted. It feels tight. Of course, it is a 24 year old classic car, things can and will need sorting going forward as with all cars, but the known issues that all go on these as they get to this age have been done and these things are not cheap.
Around £14,000 spent getting everything sorted over the last 20k miles on top of usual expenditure like servicing and tyres etc.
Yeah, it has done 140k miles, but everything is done. Coolant lines, climate system, suspension, brake lines etc. etc.
8 hours were spent tracking down a battery drain, new battery fitted but definitely a parasitic drain so....found a Tracker hidden, helped, but still draining, new ignition switch, new brake light switch, turns out it was coming from the instrument cluster, replacement cluster fitted. Now only drawing 0.002 amps. Car left for 3 weeks and started first time!
These sort of niggly things are the things that cost money to sort and are the difference between having a car you can rely on and trust to use daily vs one that you will worry if it is going to let you down.
It has always been run on super unleaded, over the last 10 years anyway, and on Momentum 99 or Shell V Power, alternating between the two.
The bodywork is in pretty good shape. There are a few marks here and there, but any serious issues are sorted. Rear arch was replacing a few months back as some bubbling had appeared.
The interior is in excellent condition, full extended leather and GT3 centre console delete with some 997.2 seats that were taken out of a low mileage car that was fitted with buckets, they are pretty much mint and so much more comfy than the 996 seats. Oh, once they were fitted made me realise the centre console was looking a bit tired, had this painted in a nice matte black so looks factory fresh.
It has the alcantara headlining.
The stereo sounds superb, it has the amp and the extra speakers in the doors etc. The oem CDR22 head unit is still fitted with a bluetooth audio module connected to it for audio streaming but keep it looking stock, which blends great with the centre console delete. Proper retro look.
All in all this is a great car that feels super tight, manual, no sunroof, excellently set up with full suspension just done so good for many years to come.
I will take some more photos as the car is sitting much lower now on H&R springs, but far more comfy at slower speeds and around town while being more focused when pressing on.
I have tried Porsche M030, Bilstein, Ohlin and this Koni and H&R combo is just about perfect for UK roads.
Meridian Silver - A stunning colour that changes with the light...
These images are big so you can really see close up, excuse the state of the car, it could do with a decent clean.
First the front bumper, if you catch it in the light you can see some light crazing.........
From normal viewing distance, you can't even see it...
Small car park door ding.......
The wheels, this was also to show the rear drivers side arch has two little scratches in the tip coat.......
