Yanlei Gu received his M.E. degree from Harbin University of Science and Technology, China, in 2008 and his Ph.D. degree from Nagoya University, Japan, in 2012. 

He has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tokyo and a lecturer at Ritsumeikan University. He became an associate professor at Hiroshima University in 2024.

His research interests include Machine Learning, Image Processing, Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Transportation Systems, GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System ), 3D City Modelling, and Financial Data Mining.
