Marte Gutierrez, Ph.D.

Dr. Marte Gutierrez, the Director of the GEO-SURE GROUP, is the James R. Paden Distinguished Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Director of the University Transportation Center for Underground Transportation Infrastructure (UTC-UTI) at Colorado School of Mines. Formerly, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow, Senior Engineer and Program Leader at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, and Associate Professor/Professor at Virginia Tech. He has held visiting professorship and researcher positions in China, Chile, France, Japan, Norway, and South Korea, and was the Founding Chair of the Department of Civil Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering, Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has published 400 papers in book chapters, journals, and conference proceedings, and has given keynote and invited lectures at several conferences. While working in Norway, he has been involved in several landmark and groundbreaking Civil Engineering projects. He is an Associate Editor of three international journals and a member of the Editorial Board of four other International Journals. He has advised and funded 32 PhD students, 32 MS thesis students and 11 post-docs, and has hosted 20 visiting scholars.
