For this project my goal was not to recreate an Overwatch character but to create my own with a unique system in Unreal Engine using blueprinting
PART 1
My first step for this project was to decide which role I would create a hero for. As a support main, I naturally leaned towards a support character, so my next step was their kit. For this, I went over 8 concepts I had previously created for my own Overwatch OCs in the past, and made my choice based on which character I felt had unique gameplay

After reviewing my 8 ideas, I decided to go with Blanka the Medic Omnic, slightly reworking her kit with new perspective. What mainly drew me to her was the way she heals and the idea of her design (both gameplay and visuals). Essentially, Blanka is an AoE support that heals through her passive, similar to Brigitte, but rather than coming from her damage, her AoE healing triggers when she lands on the ground with a cute mascot like odd-ball design. She thrives by creating chaos and confusion, swinging around the field using her foam creations to work closely with her teammates during team fights.

Passive/Party Trick: Falling, charges and disperses a large foam surge, healing allies and dealing knockback
ZR/Bubblegun: Fire a damaging heart pellete dispersing destructible foam where it lands
ZL/:Jet Propulsors: Hold to charge then release to launch yourself either upwards or forwards. Launch direction is affectected by character being airborne
L/Grappling Swing: Launch a grappling hook to rapidly swing forwards or backwards
R/Foam Emitter: Deploy a rechargeable foam construct that launches allies in the air providing healing and a single use barrier
X/Bubble Bath Tsunami: Press X to deploy a gigantic foam construct launching yourself into the air creating a weakening foam field where you land. Allies can also use this contrust and will be launched to where you landed
PERKS
Minor Perks:
Slipping & Slidding: Allies gain increased movement speed while walking on foam
Symbiosis: Deployable objects hidden within her foam gain Overhealth
(based off 50% of their own HP, with a max cap of 40 overhealth)
Major Perks:
Decomposition: While out of charges, the foam emitter will heal 15 health per second to allies near it
Titanium Landing: Knockback from landing deals damage proportional to the charge of the foam surge

After I chose Blanka my next step was to replicate the UI, open Unreal Engine, and get an artist to give a face to the name to help her come to life

DESIGN
A robotic otter mascot for children’s entertainment with a smooth digital face, blending Hello Kitty’s soft charm with Mega Man’s sleek design. Foam-launching ports on her body use green fuel visible through transparent panels. Her oversized mascot head prevents headshots; instead, the fuel tank on the back of her head is her main weak point.
STORY
Before the Omnic Crisis, the Fauna a Luxury Hotel in Argentina that experimented with AI staff had 5 robotic mascots with different tasks but with the main purpose of entertaining guests. One of them was Blanqui, a playful otter robot that created harmless foam tricks as her task was child entertainment.
When the crisis began, the hotel was bombed to stop its advanced technology from falling on the hands of the omnic forces. Years later, Blanqui awakened alone in the ruins, now fully conscious. Learning from the wreckage, she discovered that her fuel could sustain microbiotic life that produced in a symbiotic relationship.
Afraid of the outside world she stayed behind to rebuild the hotel and bury the other mascots, eventually learning to use her tech to control the microbiotic life reshaping her foam into temporary constructs. The restored ruins soon attracted Lifeweaver, who took Blanqui into Overwatch after recognizing her understanding of biotechnology's potential adapting the new name of Blanka feeling grown like a brand new person ready to join the real world and fight!
