Utilitarianism is typically attributed Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832), but draws on ideas developed earlier by thinkers such as Susanna Newcome (1685–1763), Francis Hutcheson (1694–1746) and even Mozi (墨翟) (c. 430 BCE). The utilitarian map is an ongoing project to map locations of special importance for the history of utilitarianism. Please email me if you know of locations that should be added!
