Hi Students!
Here are Ms. Gurthie's absolute favorite sites and ideas to ban boredom and still grow your brain. Have fun! And if you're looking for more active learning be sure to check out the other pages of this site.
https://stories.audible.com/discovery - Free stories (normally $120 a year) during the pandemic
Chrome Music Lab! A fun way to Make Music Here
National Aquarium Livestream - So relaxing
Not really a favorite for me but maybe a favorite for all you Minecraft kids! https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/free-educational-content-minecraft-marketplace- Learn from the Game!
Scale of the Universe - It's kind of an old site and you will have to allow Flash (some computers block it or some won't allow it at all) but it is going to blow your mind. If you click on things it should tell you what it is. You can then go to Google to learn more. If you Google and you find the info is too hard, add the words "for kids" to your search and you should find things you can read.
Imagination Printable pages - Design and color these -let your imagination run wild. If you don't have a printer, hold a piece of paper gently against your computer and trace it. Don't press too hard.
Ted Ed - fun lessons about lots of topics
Go Noodle - silly active fun
Boredom Busters - lots of choices
Livestreams- If you're missing having real class and activities, you can click on this menu of livestream event choices. Decide what you like and what time it is offered. Set yourself an alarm on your(or an adult's) phone or mobile device or a reminder in your calendar, then go to the link you want at the right time and participate live in all kids of stuff! Thanks Michelle Jones.
DIY - This website is a buffet of cool stuff to learn and it's not typical school stuff either. Click on the thing you want to learn and get started! You've got to at least check out all the choices!
Free Rice This site is easy and awesome! If it's too easy you can change difficulty level. You can also change to math, vocab, world languages, lots of topics. Bonus they really do give the rice away to hungry children, so the more you learn the more you help others
LOOK AT ALL THE Free Rice CATEGORIES - you can learn so much
Host a "Powerpoint Party" - Make a slideshow about anything that interests you then share it with your friends using Zoom so you can video chat with each other while you show the screen - inspired by my son's college "secret society" that does this with their own life stories, and by the 14 year old featured in this tweet. Ask your parents to help you get Zoom. It's free. And you can use all kinds of cool backrounds on it
