The GUM Sister Cities Program is the process of relating cities of GUM member states together to improve relations between nations through cultural and diplomatic ties, just like their macronational counterparts do through their own ways. Here we plan to do the same. However, the GUM has been criticized in the past for not focusing and achieving its main goal; making relations through member states.
This program is one of the many ways to stop that genre of criticism. We plan to help build, and create new relations through member states. We offer an new way to make relations through a system used in the macronational world that is seen to be successful. Through the early phases it was praised by the test nations on succeeding its goal to make new cultural and diplomatic relations. With the great results of the first two phases we now are opening up this project to the rest of the GUM to continue a shared success for making new relations inside the GUM.
Connect citizens in the Sister Cities! By connecting the citizens if they wish to be connected, it is essentially a “pen-pal” type of communication through your citizens. This would make your citizens have knowledge of your nations allies and other citizens.
Install signs for other sister cities. Making signs showing the direction to the other sister city (or cities) will look great and photos and it’s a symbol of friendship. You are effectively showing other micronations your new relation, with the other micronation.
Make new ties! If you are not already recognizing each other, try to do so if it complies with your laws regarding diplomatic relations. Simple recognition can go a long way, and if your nations are ready for a treaty of mutual recognition is an even greater sign of diplomacy too!
Visit each other's cities. If your micronations are relatively close, try to visit your sister city, if they give you permission. While this does not have to be a diplomatic trip or summit, a simple visit being a tourist in your sister city will look great for both nations.
Learn about your sister city. Enrich yourself in the history of the city and learn about the culture and people. While the city may not have an extensive culture or history, it is still great to learn about it. Both cities could agree to celebrate a holiday together. This can help your new sister cities grow together
