Introduction
On the 17th of February 2018, Gujarat Arts and Science College, Ahmedabad, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Special Olympics Bharat-Gujarat. This MoU signifies a collaborative effort to foster programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities, providing them with opportunities to excel in sports and other activities. Special Olympics Bharat, part of the global Special Olympics federation, aims to empower people with intellectual disabilities by removing obstacles, changing attitudes, and creating opportunities for them to demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share their skills and friendship with the world.
From the MoU to the Present: Volunteer Contributions
Since the signing of the MoU in 2018, our college’s dedicated volunteers have actively participated in numerous events aimed at supporting sports and health programs for children with special needs. Our collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat-Gujarat has enabled us to make significant contributions to these initiatives.
Special Khel Mahakumbh (District and State Levels):
We are honored to have hosted the Special Khel Mahakumbh events at both district and state levels, encompassing the whole of Gujarat, right here on our campus. These events saw extensive volunteer support from our college, showcasing our pride and dedication to the cause.
World Summer Games 2023 Selection and Preparatory Camps:
Our college played a vital role in the organization of selection trials and preparatory camps for the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023. Our volunteers made valuable contributions, ensuring the smooth execution of these critical events.
Though our involvement has extended across a large number of events, below is a brief overview of some of the major activities that our volunteers have contributed to:

Purpose of Volunteering
Our volunteers joined the national coaching and preparatory camps organized by Special Olympics Bharat, aimed at training athletes from various regions of India for the prestigious World Summer Games 2023. The event brought together athletes of all skill levels, and our volunteers were key in assisting coaches, providing personalized attention, and ensuring that athletes were both physically and mentally prepared for the competition.

Dr. Dilipkumar Chaudhary, our college’s Physical Training Instructor (PTI), has served as the Head Coach of the Indian team in the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023, held in Berlin, Germany.
A second-year B.A. student from our college was selected to represent India in the Asia Pacific Unified Football Championship. This student’s selection marks a proud moment for our institution as they participate at an international level.
Our student, Rana Dimpal, has been selected as the Swimming Coach in the National Championship from Gujarat State, further enhancing our college's contribution to the national sports scene.
Another proud achievement is Nikita Chaudhary’s selection as the Golf Coach for the National Championship, representing Gujarat State.
