Electronic Education in Palestine during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Since the symposium aims to explore distance learning needs, options and solutions unique to the Palestinian institutions, besides, the scope of nearly most of my research which concentrate on how to transfer the Applied Linguistics theories into practice, there are three core points to be discussed. The first: If you were me, what you would buy first: the cart, or the horse? The second is: what do we teach and what do our learners need to learn in the era of 21st Century? The last one is: who are we? And are we brave enough to say where we are in the field of technology and what we need to apply electronic education in our context?

I always say “who has nothing, can give nothing”. If we all admit that there is a need to electronic education, and the importance of using technology inside and outside the class: have the curriculum designers taken these concepts into consideration when they have designed and created the instructions of each task in the curriculums?

Practical solutions for our Arab World in general and our lovely Palestinian contexts come in two directions which are 21st century Literacy, and 21st century required skills. Based on these solutions, we can find the way out towards electronic Education in Palestine during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Diverse Perspectives towards Integrating Technology along with Traditional Method in ESL Classrooms

This presentation will shed light on the result of a study on integrating technology as scaffolding teaching method in ESL classrooms. A merged online learning besides conventional classroom offers unlimited influential privileges. Research ascertains that both face-to-face and online learning strategies in ESL classrooms create effective deep learning. Forty freshmen at university level are divided into two groups: 20 in the experimental (E.G) and 20 in the Controlled (C.G). Ten ESL female teachers are called to participate in this survey. Classroom observations are recorded whereas pre- post interviews are carried out. Further, a questionnaire was distributed to students in (E.G). A mixed quantitative and qualitative method is employed. The results of the study demonstrate that blended learning positively influences engaged participants in ESL classrooms. Moreover, teacher participants display valuable perspectives toward that style as a teaching productive platform. Furthermore, GC stimulates students to monitor their progression in language skills, think critically and use English in and off the class walls. Further, GC may be a panacea for creating effective and long-life learning.

Rethinking digital learning in the post-COVID-19 era

The presentation "Rethinking digital learning in the post-COVID-19 era" will describe the new digital education landscape as it is shaped by the new normal in the post-covid-19 era. Furthermore, the skills and techniques that are necessary for the management of the educational crisis will be discussed. New literacies are needed as assets to face the new challenges, for example data literacy, technological literacy, and human literacy. As a conclusion, we would say that our current reality calls for responsible leadership. During the COVD-19 pandemic, teachers are not anymore "unsung heroes", they became celebrated heroes and real leaders.

Re-wrote to remote: The rise of e-learning in classroom education.

What has been the impact of this pandemic on education?

Since COVID-19 was classified as a pandemic, the world has changed attitudes towards the handling of daily pursuits since people felt threatened and controlled by COVID. The education world adapted itself into digital learning. Although not every teacher accepted this, that was the only way to reach students and continue education. The UK hasn’t previously made extensive use of remote teaching until now. This has therefore become an opportunity for the use and development of technology.

In the UK, education institutions have used different platforms to reach their own students. The continuity of education was essential as was the need for this to be consistent with a return to face-to-face teaching.

Many hands make light work: Team teaching in the Hands up Project's online sessions

Remote team teaching has always been a feature of our work in the Hands up Project. In this talk I'll reflect on some examples of our work, especially under lockdown, and explore how online language learning can be enhanced by two heads rather than one.

Learning Analytics in online higher education: An in-depth evaluation of student profiles

The rationale behind “data is the new oil” is that just like oil, raw data is only valuable when it is gathered well-timed, holistically and accurately, in conjunction with other pertinent data. Learning Analytics (LA) is an emerging field that heralds the rise of the generation of data and is defined as the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of information about learners and their contexts for the purposes of understanding and optimizing learning. This presentation explores the basics of learning analytics and recommends the integration of LA into the field of online higher education to assist educators conceptualize student profiles better via analyzing e-data. Given that “data optimize student performance and their online learning experiences. Authentic examples (screenshots of Wooclap events) are also examined to accentuate the importance of exported e-data in the form of a report, grid or excel file. The presentation concludes with the pedagogical implications of the usage of learning analytics tools in a virtual environment drawing upon real-time metrics.
