I was born and raised here in Bakersfield California. My interest in guitar started at age four listening to KISS records. I began learning the guitar at age fifteen with interests in Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Early in my instruction, I was introduced to the Classical Guitar. I have played in the Bakersfield Jazz band and played for venues catered by Cafe Med–including the private social dinner to the sponsoring hosts for the Norman Rockwell painting exhibition at the Bakersfield Museum of Arts.
I earned a B.A. in History from California State University of Bakersfield in 1998. I have taught history at various public schools. In addition, I have taught music at Heritage Christian Schools and was a private studio instructor for classical guitar at C.S.U.B. Finally, I taught electric and classical guitar at Stockdale Music for over ten years.
Due to my classical training, I enjoy playing a wide range of musical styles: Bach, Beethoven, Tarrega, and Albeniz…to Latin composers such as Barrios, Bonfa, Jobim, and Lauro…Flamenco music from Serrano, Martin, and Pena…and Contemporary steel string music in alternate tunings such as DADGAD.
Music is a beautiful language that is shared by all countries of the world. I became a history teacher, because the study of peoples and their culture is my second passion outside of music. The guitar, like a miniature orchestra, can be taken anywhere to express the different nuances and joys of each musical art, transporting the individual to different places of the world.
Instruction given in a variety of styles: Classical, Flamenco, Bossa Nova/Samba, Electric guitar, and Ukulele
