I have always been interested in geometric designs and color combinations. I also used to create stained glass with my good friend Doug Bozeman. However, that is both expensive and a bit dangerous. I was also a picture framer for 18 years and learned color contrast and placement is essential.
While living in Kansas I attempted to have a custom quilt made through family connections, by an Amish lady. After many attempted meetings we realized she was selling mass produced quilts and did not have the talent to make the quilt we wanted. She was a fraud! Out of anger I borrowed my mother's sewing machine and asked Doug's mother Pat Bozeman to teach me, and in one night we made a "checkerboard" quilt top out of fabric.
My first quilt was going to be a "Watercolor stamp quilt" with a Christmas motif.
It was so much fun!
I became a member of a very large quilt group in Kansas. The variety of quilts others made was inspiring. The traditional quilts were enticing but I always wanted to see something more exciting. A few quilts had dimensions and really caught my attention, but it took more inspiration to create my first dimensional quilt.
While being a tourist in Italy we came across an amazing church in Venice, San Marco Cathedral. Venice is known for the beautiful art, frescoed ceilings and mosaic buildings, but what I found most interesting were the mosaic marble floors, gorgeous and often 3d designs!
I was inspired. Let me inspire you.
