Welcome to my site!

My name is Guillermo. I graduated with a PhD in Educational Psychology (Learning & Cognition) and a Graduate Certificate in Measurement & Statistics, both from Florida State University. I currently work as a Research Associate at RMC Research Corporation and was formerly a Visiting Assistant in Research at the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (FCR-STEM), Florida State University

My academic interests overlap two disciplines: psychology (e.g., psychological theories of teaching and learning, epistemic cognition) and mathematics education (e.g., mathematics teacher education, teacher professional development). I'm also a history and philosophy buff, with a penchant for ancient and Early Modern science.

I'm currently researching the following topics: (1) the relationship between epistemic beliefs and beliefs about mathematics instruction among preservice teachers, (2) the implementation of mathematics standards and how they affect mathematics teachers’ pedagogical knowledge and practice, and (3) the historical and socio-cognitive development of mathematical thinking.

I also happen to know an owl on campus that goes by the name Archimedes.
