In today's lesson we will look at the ways to recognise other wolves when they're in their human form. We will also discuss all the changes to your body that you will spot in yourself and how they differ depending on the type of shifter. Another aspect of today's lesson will be a topic of your emotions and how to control them.
Along with the obvious ability to change into an animal and your anger being a bit on the rise, you will also see some other things changing within your body that will only become more and more advanced with time.
SMELL
You will be surprised how much your smell will improve! It will not be as advanced as the one of a dog, but it still be pretty decent. You will be able to smell another wolf from miles. Alongside, you will be able to smell blood, and other animals from a few meters. Your smell will also be more sensitive for food and flowers. After finding a mate, you will be able to smell them from very far too.
HEALING
Your body will start to heal a bit faster than that of a non-shifter. The Quileute pack is definitely the fastest healer of all times, with all their injuries disappearing within a few minutes to two days (including surgeries and broken bones). As a normal shapeshifter you will get rid of small injuries, such as cuts, within a day to maximum of 2 days. Mid-severe injuries, such as sprains will take about a week and broken bones take up to 3 weeks (which is still faster than for non-shapeshifters). It's important to add that this doesn't involve diseases such as cold, fever or similar (e.g. infections), which require muggle forms of treatment and the same time to heal. Additionally, severe injuries or illnesses, such as body paralysis, blindness, cancer, heart attack, etc., cannot be reversed or healed by simply being a wolf. Certain things cannot be changed and by being a shapeshifter it doesn't mean they can't affect or happen to you. Moreover, some wolves, who become paralysed or blind whilst in their human form, they will remain like that in the wolf form. The body will automatically protect wolves from wolphia and allow them to remain in their human form without the need to change.
HEARING
Another very important change is your hearing that will significantly improve. You will not only be able to hear other wolves from miles but also you will be able to feel vibration through your feet on the street (e.g. you will be able to 'hear' a car coming your way through your feet).
As a newbie you probably will find it difficult to fit in into the human world. With your strong sense of smell not fully developed yet, you need to focus on slightly different aspects to spot a fellow wolf, who is not a member of your pack.
EYES
One of the most important aspects of identifying a wolf are the eyes. Most wolves have a slightly different way of looking at the world. All wolves, including yourself, will not blink as much as non-shapeshifters. We prefer to look at the world with as little blinking as possible. You will discover that most wolves have a very deep and persistent stare full of curiosity and carefulness. Older wolves will usually have very peaceful eyes, by which you can tell their strength. Common misconception: not all wolves have a very good eyesight, with some wearing glasses whilst in their human form. Their wolf eyes, however, have a very sharp eyesight.
INTERESTS
A lot wolves have a very deep interest in the magical world, as well as wolves in general. Most wolves have shelves full of books and figurines related to wolves. Most also wear clothes or jewellery with photos of wolves printed on it. Some also wear perfumes that resemble the smell of a forest. With all of these things together, there is a 99% chance the person you came across, is a wolf.
RELATIONSHIP WITH PETS
As you will learn in the next lesson, wolves have a very weird relationship with all animals. However, the easiest way to spot a wolf is by looking at their relationship with animals. Almost all pets (e.g. dogs or cats) will look like drawn to the wolves, and often come rushing to them happily. But it's not just domestic animals - wild animals, such as pigeons or seagulls, will not be startled by them.
BEHAVIOURAL TRAITS
Just like with the eyes, wolves as humans are very curious about everything. They may either vary every word or think deeply about something before saying anything out loud. Most of them are usually quiet and easily mix with the crowd, which makes it challenging to spot them among non-shapeshifter. Additionally, they are almost always very friendly to non-shapeshifters but in a bit off way, as they do not show much emotions when being kind, e.g. not smiling much. Due to spending so much time with the pack, most wolves don't leave the pack's sight and often spend a lot of times with them if they have the chance, so if there is a group of people acting in a very careful manner, chances are they are from one wolf pack.
A very important thing you probably question is your diet. Because you are a part predator, you may be confused as to what you can or can't eat. The answer for this question varies.
Most wolf packs have strict rules, also when it comes to their diet whilst in the wolf form. Most wolf packs are against their members hunting other forest animals. In a wolf from, you have to eat only meat but most of the time, you should ask other members of the pack to leave meat out for you so you would not break the pack rules (more about this in the next lesson).
As you already know, wolves don't attack non-shapeshifters, but unfortunately, non-shapeshifters attack us. All alphas prepare the whole pack before the hunting seasons when people come into the forest and hunt for wolves, deer and other forest animals. Sadly even though most are aware of shapeshifters, they don't care about that at all, and feel more motivated to accidentally kill a shifter and sell the fur and eyes of the killed individual. Wolves should not only listen out for guns but also be on a lookout for snares and leg hold traps. They are extremely dangerous and sadly are placed all over the woods, even when there's no hunting season at the time. Forests are also filled with hunters, who hunt illegally, therefore it is essential to always take care of yourself and make sure to keep control of your emotions and remain close to your pack. Most humans are not to be trusted and all relationships outside of the pack should be carefully reconsidered. Most of the time, you are not allowed to bring your human friends directly to your pack or its location, as it poses a threat to your pack.
When mixing with non-shapeshifter you need to manage to control your emotions, so you won't either transform or hurt someone accidentally. It may be very difficult for you to control your body at first. All your emotions will mix with the uncontrollable need to transform into a wolf and back, and may influence your body pressure and then it's difficult to regain control over yourself. As proposed before, relaxation methods are key to begin your journey with controlling your emotions. Activities such as yoga or sport can help, just as well as green or camomile tea. There are however, plenty of ways to calm yourself down when feeling you're about to turn. Each wolf is different and so different things work for each individual differently:
QUICK PEACEFUL THOUGHT - it can be anything from a nice view, favourite person, favourite animal, favourite food. Anything that works is good enough!
BREATHING - the quickest and the most common method used by experienced wolves. All you need to do is to quickly shift your whole focus on breathing in and out. It does need practise but as soon as mastered this skill, it helps you to calm down within seconds.
BREAKING EYE CONTACT - while in the middle of anger arising in your body, the most effective way for all newbies is to simply take your eyes off the person you are mad at. You can look up or down, or just simply walk away. You can also put your fingers in your ears to remove yourself completely from the place and calm yourself down within minutes.
With time, you won't need to use any of these methods during a normal argument or every-day annoying situations. However, in case you feel the anger build up at any point - be free to use any of the above straight-away.
